Leicester university buildings lie approximately ½ mile south of the city centre, making it a short walking distance to the railway station. Accomodation is all off campus sites; Halls of residence (catered) are popular with the new students although there are a limited number of self-catering halls. Private accommodation can be arranged through the housing officer if the student wishes to share a rented house. Many of the halls are in the suburb of Oadby which is approx. 5 miles from the Shia mosque.

Accommodations for new students is usually Halls of Residence; this can be catered or self-catered. They also offer “find-a-home” event for students who wish to share a house with friends (rent basis) or if you do not know of other students wishing to share, the housing officer puts you into contact with other students interested in sharing rented accommodation. All privately rented accommodation is within walking distance of the university campus buildings. The university campus buildings are mostly in the city centre.

There is also an Islamic Society, which students can join (for a small annual fee). This is an active group holding monthly lectures/seminars with guest speakers and is an ideal way of making new Muslim friends and meeting other fellow students.

Loughborough is a pleasant small market-town approximately 12 miles from Leicester city. Accomodation for the university students is arranged via the housing officer; halls of residence (catered or self-catering) or privately rented houses shared with other students. Includes schools of Engineering, social science, humanities and science.

  • Leicester city enjoys a highly multicultural population with wide ethnic diversity bringing together a celebration of all faiths and races.

  • Has 11 sunni mosques; 1 khoja shia mosque; 2 islamic education centres (sunni owned).

  • Largest covered market in Europe (daily).

  • Summer events to cater for all ethnic backgrounds e.g. Asian mela; Caribbean Carnival.
