1.Adelphi University

Founded in 1896, the first co-educational college in New York State, priding itself in its practical commitments to liberal arts. The main campus is in Garden City with extension sites in Soho (New York City) and Huntingdon.

This private campus university of approximately 2400 students is located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in Western New York. It has moved into the top ten among the master’s level institutions in the North in this year’s US News and World Report College Guide.

3. City University of New York

This is the largest urban university in the USA and its third largest public university system. Almost 198,000 students are enrolled for degrees on 19 campuses in all 5 boroughs of New York City. More than 205,000 students are currently studying adult /continuing education courses, choosing from over 1200 academic programmes (ranging from liberal arts to specialised professional courses).
The CUNY now has ten senior colleges, six community colleges, a four-year technical college, a doctoral –granting graduate school, a law school, an accelerated medical programme and a medical school. Students from over 145 countries currently enjoy the facilities of CUNY.

It offers Schools in Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Science and Health Sciences.

5.Colgate University

Located in the Hamilton area, this university offers 63 courses in Arts and Sciences ranging from Anthropology and Neuroscience to Chinese and Hebrew.

6.Fordham University

This university offers a distinctive educational experience rooted in the 460year old Jesuit tradition. It has five colleges around New York City and is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities.

7.Long Island University

This is America’s eighth largest private university with approximately 30,000 students and is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
Brooklyn Campus in the New York Metropolitan area is its largest college and also has one of the oldest and largest schools of Pharmacy in the USA.
Other campuses include Brentwood, Rockland, Westchester and Southampton.

Founded in 1831, NYU is one of the largest private universities in the USA. Consisting of 14 schools and 5 colleges, it occupies 6 major centres in Manhattan. International study courses include international exchange courses at partner institutions around the world.

9.Niagara University

Niagara University is located in the town of Lewiston on the northern boundary of the City of Niagara Falls, New York. It stands on top the Niagara River Gorge, four miles from the world famous cataracts and overlooks the Province of Ontario, Canada. Nearby metropolitan areas include Buffalo and Toronto.

11.Polytechnic University of New York

This Polytechnic University prides itself on its technology-focused programmes. The graduate centres can be found in Brooklyn, Long Island and Westchester with over 3000 students from more than 25 countries.

12.The Rockefeller University

For over 100 years the Rockfeller University has been a leader in biomedical research, chemistry, bio informatics and physics. The University has 75 research laboratories (conducting both basic and clinical research) and the Rockefeller University Hospital. The University Hospital combines clinical studies of patients with laboratory bench work designed to lead to new therapies and diagnostics. It can be located in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

13.Saint Bonaventure University

The Franciscan Friars founded this private Catholic University in 1858. It can be found in the southwest corner of New York State between the city of Olean and Allegany in the Enchanted Mountains. Its 750-year-old tradition of Franciscan style learning methods is still practised today.

This private Catholic University was founded in 1870. It offers over 100 academic programmes in the liberal arts, sciences, business, pharmaceutical science and computing. Its campuses can be found at Manhattan and Staten Island.


15.Saint Lawrence University

16.The State University of New York

The State University of New York comprises America’s largest comprehensive system of public higher education. It boasts of 64 campuses offering over 5100 courses. Over 36% of the students are over 25 years of age reflecting the universities services to specific constituencies, such as training courses for business and industry and continuing education opportunities for the professional community.
