Myanmar (Burma) with a population of 60 million has between 10,000 to 20,000 Shias throughout the country. Taunggyi is one of the cites where Shaykh Jamal Husain, a student of the Hawza in Qum, was sponsored by The World Federation to preach the values of the Ahlul Bayt (as) and to majalis e aza to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (as). The Shia population of Taunggyi is approximately 300 people.
Shaykh Jamal Hussain delivered 13 lectures on the topic of Objectives of the Uprising of Imam Husayn (as) in the native Burmese language, and led two processions (julus) during his presence in Taungyyi. He also educated the congregation on many aspects relating to Islamic laws (Ahkam).
After his lectures in Taungyyi, Shaykh Jamal Hussain travelled to Rangoon, the former capital of Burma, where he lectured in Urdu. Approximately 5000 Shias reside in Rangoon.

Shaykh Jamaal Hussain has been a theological student for the last 12 years, completing 7 years in India and 5 years in Qum, where he currently resides. The World Federation is now embarking upon the publication of a book in Burmese language, which will be translated by Shaykh Jamal Hussain.
Sayyid Aliraza Naqvi, Assistant Secretary General for Islamic Education, stated: “The World Federation was honoured to be able to sponsor Shaykh Hussain for his Tableegh activities in Myanmar. It is the first activities we have undertaken in that country and I hope to further this excellent beginning that we have made. I urge the community to donate towards this cause and help us to spread the message of Imam Husayn (as) even further.”
