My visit to Iran - Answering the call of Imam Reza (as)

Updated 26 January 2011

In the name of the most Merciful and Beneficent, Allah (swt)

The air in Iran during the month of Shaban is dry in the day’s heat and motionless in the night. For the day has been made for endurance and night for servitude. In the land of loneliness the truthful worshippers are calling to their Lord day and night: for their solitude is proof of their nearness to His Majesty. Amongst the divine leaders they seek His path. They the truthful people call unto others to join them. And this is the call we heard from them. The Imam Reza (as) has left us the paved path, but we must seek it through the help of those who remember it. The Imam will always call, but we cannot respond to his voice. Simply we listen, and try to minimize the distance.

Iran leaves a deeply ingrained presence in us. For how can we not experience submission when we are near the ones who submit? Surrender - this is what we saw ourselves making an effort to do in Iran. This was only natural for this was what we craved for.

Imam Ali Reza (as) possessed qualities not found at that time in any other except his progeny. In the time spent near the Imam we scrubbed clean the thoughts that prevented us from possessing those qualities. We identified those qualities. And then we increased our conviction. This is a standard process that occurs at different rates for everyone. As we were of various ages, the older students were able to see the growth that occurred in the younger students. It brought great pleasure to know that Imam Reza (as) despite not being visible possessed the power to allow growth. This was a great way of measuring how a visit to a holy Imam can strengthen one’s belief system.

I end this passage by mentioning the utmost Glory of Allah (swt) in choosing us to realize our true selves. And we make sincere duas for those who wish to seek the intercession. By far this was most revealing trip I have taken. And I am also grateful to those who thought of this programme and those who were with us in the days and nights. The time spent in lecture with the scholars was enlightening. The entire trip to Iran was like the planting of a tree seed whose fruits will be a reward in the years to come.
