The World Federation was given a mandate by the madaris to move away from the Edexcel syllabus and instead to adopt the AQA syllabus in both GCSE and AS Level. However, a number of students are still at the midway point in their Edexcel GCSEs. In order to support these students, Islamic Education organised a full day of GCSE revision and examination technique training for madressa students taking the GCSE Religious Studies Edexcel Unit D at Watford Jamaat. The sessions were expertly conducted by Sister Tabassum Bachoo, a qualified teacher and Examiner for Units D & K.
This is the fourth year in which training has taken place centrally and students from Hyderi, SIM (Stanmore Sunday) and Wessex madaris attended.
Students were first taken through an understanding of examination technique, focusing on the types of questions posed, key words used and most importantly understanding how to answer the different types of questions. Sister Tabassum also went through key areas of each Unit, focusing on the range of questions that have come up in past years. Students then had an opportunity to explore and discuss how to adapt key facts and information in response to the specific question in order to maximise the marks gained.
The session also enabled students from different madaris to meet, network and share experiences.

General summary of comments from students’ feedback forms:
