On 27 May 2012, WF Islamic Education organised a full day of support training for Madaris students who will be taking the AQA GCSE this year. The training and exam technique was held at Hyderi Islamic Centre and conducted by sister Noor Gangji and Yasin bhai Rahim. Approximately 50 people attended the session including teachers.

The students were trained on how best to revise and respond to exam questions and an insight into how the papers are assessed was provided. The students were also given the opportunity to mark some exemplar answers and this enabled them to better understand the different question types and the exact requirements for each.
The GCSE Coordinator for World Federation sis Mehjabeen Rahim found that “although it was intense, sitting the mock paper equipped students with the experience of the real thing and learning about the mark scheme gave them a good idea of what is expected”
The session was also an opportunity for students from various jamaats to network and exchange thoughts on exam preparation.

Students commented:
Sumayya Alidina of Hyderi: I valued the exam technique and practice questions
Zahra Nurmohamed: I now know how to answer 6 mark questions properly
Ahmed Sarumeily of Wessex: I liked the clarity and usefulness of the presentation
Zainab Jadawji of Hyderi: I valued the exam tips
Aliasghar Hussain of Peterborough: This will help me with better essay skills
Ahmed Canani of Wessex: I valued the most how to answer questions in detail
