ZIARAT-E-MADINA-E-MUNNAWARRAH

    ZIARAT INSIDE MASJID-E-NABAWEE
1. PROPHET MUHAMMED [at_work]
Prophet Muhammed [at_work] was born in Mecca on 17th rabi-ul-awwal, 570 A.D, 51 years before hijrat in the year Amul-feel ( The year of Elephants ). He was born an orphan as his father, Abdullah ibne Abdul Muttalib died a few months before he was born and his mother whose name was Amina binte Wahab died when he was only 5 years old. His grandfather Abdul-Muttalib looked after him but he too passed away when the Prophet [at_work] was 8 years old and then his uncle Abu Talib took charge. Both Fatima binte Asad and Abu Talib ibne Abdul Mutallib ( parent of Imam Ali ( A.S. ) ) looked after him like their own son.
The Holy Prophet's first journey outside Arabia was to Syria at the age of about 14 years with his uncle's trading caravan. Upto the age of 25 years, Prophet Muhammed [at_work] was engaged in trading.
At the age of 25 years he married Bibi Khadija who was a widow of 40 years.
At the age of forty, a revelation came to him from Allah ' read in the name of Allah ' and the first to know of this was his wife Khadija and his cousin Ali. From that time onwards till the time of his death, the Holy Quraan, ayat by ayat was revealed to Prophet Muhammed.
The Holy Prophet [at_work] migrated from Mecca to Madinah in the year 622 A.D. This is known as Hijrat and our Islamic calender begins from this date. Following Hijrat, many battles were fought and some were won by the muslim. Amongst the famous ones are the Battles of Badr, Ohad, Khaiber and Hunain.
During the year which marked the 10th Anniversary of Hijrat and his last pilgrimage to Mecca, Prophet Muhammed [at_work] proclaimed at Ghadeer-e-Khum that Imam Ali (A.S.) who had been the first among the men to accept Islam to be his successor. This was on 18th of Zilhajj, 10th year of Hijrat. After this, the Prophet came back to Madinah. On 28th Safar, in the year 11 A.H, the Holy Prophet [at_work] passed away to eternal life.
2. BAB-E-JIBRAIL
It is mustahab to enter the masjid through Bab-e-Jibrail. It is the door that Jibrail used to use when coming to the chamber of Janabe Fatema Zehra (A.S.). Jibrail entered through this door for any other business but Maqam-e-Jibrail was used only when the ' Wahee ' was brought to the Prophet [at_work].
3. MAQAM-E-JIBRAIL
Where Jibrail came with ' Wahee ' (revelation).
4. STAGE OF SUFFAA
The new very poor muslims who had come to Madina from different parts of the world as they had been disowned by their families on accepting Islam. The Holy Prophet [at_work] requested for a stage to be built just outside the mosque where these poor muslims could stay till they found their own food and shelter. " Suffaa " in arabic means " Stage ".
5. RIYADHUL JANNAH
This is a piece of land between the zaree of the Prophet [at_work] to his mimber. According to some riwayah, Bibi Fatema ( A.S. ) is buried here and the Prophet [at_work] used to call it Riyadhul Jannah. According to another riwayah, the Prophett ( S.A.W. ) is heard to have said that this piece of land will be raised to meet Jannat on the day of Quiyamat.
6. MIMBER-E-RASUL
Mimber-e-Rasul is found inside Masjid-e- Nabawee. It is mustahab to do the ziyarat of this mimber. It is the same mimber that the Holy Prophet [at_work] used to give khutbas from. One often hears a riwayat regarding Imam Husain ( A.S. ) :-
One day Imam Husain ( A.S. ) came running out of the hujra of Janabe Fatema ( A.S. ) during the Khutba delivered by the Prophet [at_work] from the mimber. The kurta ( shirt ) of Imam Husain (A.S.) was too long and got caught in his feet. Imam Husain ( A.S. ) was about to trip when the Prophet [at_work] left the khutba, rushed down the mimber and saved Imam Husain from falling. It is this particular mimber which is referred to in the above riwayah.
7. MEHRAB-E-NABAWEE
Just before the mimber is a Mehrab called Mehrab-e-Nabawee. It is from this Mehrab that the Prophet [at_work] used to conduct Namaaz-e-Jamaat. This is also the Mehrab where the Prophet [at_work] extended his sajdah to 70 'Subhanallah ' when Imam Husain ( A.S. ) had mounted on his back.

SOME IMPORTANT PILLARS

SUTUN-E-HANNAANAA
Near the mimber adjoining the Mehrab-e-Nabawee is a pillar ( sutun ) called Istewaana-e-Hannaanaa. ( Hannaanaa is the sound the small of a camel makes when it is separated from its mother ). Before the Mimber was built, the Prophet [at_work] used to lean against a date palm and give Khutbas. After the Mimber was built, the Prophet [at_work] used the Mimber for khutbas. The date palm complained and cried out of loneliness. The Prophet [at_work] came down the Mimber and reassured the date tree that it would accompany him in Jannat.
When this date palm dried up, it was buried there and a pillar was raised in its memory. Now this pillar is called " Sutun-e-Hannaanaa ".
SUTUN-E-AISHA
The third pillar from the grave of Prophet [at_work] is called " Sutun-e-Aisha ". The Prophet [at_work] has said that in this Masjid there is one place where if people came know the thawab of praying there, they would make long queues. The Prophet had not said where the place was. After his death, Aisha pointed out this place and a pillar was raised here called the " Pillar of Aisha " or " Sutun-e-Aisha ".
SUTUN-E-ABEE LABBAABA or THE PILLAR OF TAWBA
The pillar right in the front of Kabre Mubarak is the Pillar of Tawba. When the Muslims first came to Madinah, they made Peace Pact ( Agreemant ) with Jews. However, the Jews went againt the agreement and continuously harrassed the Muslims. When this went beyond the limit, there was an order from Allah ( S.W.T. ) to kill the Jews. Abu Labbaaba was an old resident of Madinah who had accepted Islam, but still had contacts with the Jews. He went and told the Jews of the plan to kill them. Abu Labbaaba then repented his grievious mistake. He came to Masjid-e-Nabawee, tied himself to a date tree and cried to Allah for forgiveness.
One day the Prophet [at_work] was resting in the hujra of Umme Salma when Jibrail came with the ayah of the Quraan which mentions the forgiveness of Abu Labbaaba. The Prophet [at_work] untied Abu Labbaaba and gave him the good news of Allah's forgiveness. Here a pillar was built called Sutun-e-Abu Labbaaba and is recommended to pray two rakaat namaaz and ask for forgiveness. The Prophet [at_work] has mentioned that had Abu Labbaaba come through him for forgiveness, his ' Tawba ' would have been accepted immediately. We are asked to seek forgiveness for our sins through the Waselah of our 14 Masumeens.Apart from these ' Sutuns ' ( Pillars ), there are three others that are half inside the Zaree and half outside it. All these pillar inside have their names written in the top circle of the pillar inside the golden edging. They are :-
a) SUTUN-E-SAREER
This is the last one. It is where the Prophet [at_work] used to pray Namaaz-e-Shab and rest.
' Sareer ' is Arabic for bed.
b) SUTUN-E-HARS or SUTUN-E-ALI
It is the pillar where Imam Ali ( A.S. ) used to stand guard over the Prophet [at_work] when he slept at night.
' Hars ' in Arabic is to guard or patrol.
c) SUTUN-E-WUFUD
When Muslims or non-Muslims from outside Madinah came to visit the Prophet [at_work], he would receive their delegation here. ' Wufud ' in Arabic means delegation. Thus the pillar is known as Sutun-e-Wufud.
d) SUTUN-E-TAHAJJUD
This is opposite Suffaa at the corner of the chambers of Bibi Fatema Zehra ( A.S. ). It has been narrated that Jibrail used to come to the Prophet [at_work] and they would sit at this place and Jibrail would talk to the Prophet [at_work] the secrets of the universe and creation.
e) SUTUN-E-JIBRAIL
This is completely inside the Zaree.

ZIARAT OUTSIDE MASJID-E-NABAWEE

HOUSE OF IMAM HASSAN ( A.S. )
If one walks outside the masjid straight from Bab-e-Jibrail towards the Quibla, one comes to the house with a white dome and a board which says "Maktab-e-Sheikh-Arif Hikmat ". This was the house of Imam Hassan ( A.S. ).
HOUSE OF ABU AYYUB ANSARI.
When the Prophet [at_work] first arrived in Madinah, it was the wish of each and every person to be a host of the Prophet. But the Prophet [at_work] said he would stay at the place where his camel would stop. The camel stopped in front of the house of Abu Ayyub Ansari. This was the first house in which the Prophet [at_work] stayed. Now one finds there Daar-ul-Qadha or the " Court of Justice " of Madinah city.
MASJID-E-GHAMAMA
In the time of the Prophet [at_work] there was a severe draught in Madinah as it had not rained for many years. The people of Madinah requested the Prophet [at_work] for Dua. It is the ruling of the Shariah that when Namaaz-e-Istisqa ( Namaz for rain ) is prayed, it is better to pray outside the city under the open skies. Masjide Ghamama in those days was the area outside Madinah. The Prophet [at_work] brought the people to this place and prayed Namaaz-e-Istisqa here.
According to some riwayah, the Prophet [at_work] asked Imam Husein ( A.S. ) for dua. Immediately clouds gathered and it rained. Thus it is called Masjid-e-Ghamama.
