ZIARATS OUTSIDE MECCA CITY

SHE'B-E-ABI TALIB

She'b-e-Abi Talib is just outside Mecca city. Seven years after the announcement of Prophethood, the Kuffers and Mushrekeens of Mecca declared a boycott against the family of Prophet Muhammed. A notice was placed on the walls of Kaaba so that no one could pretend ignorance of the boycott. When H. Abutallib came to know of this boycott, he took his whole family to She'b-e-Abu Talib and stayed there for three years. This boycott was so intense that even to trade with the family of Abu Talib was forbidden. Abu Sufyan used to buy out the goods for sale to Abu Talib at twice the original price.
For three years, both the children and adults suffered this severe boycott until red ants came along and chewed up the paper on which the notice of boycott was written. These three years were extremly difficult for family of Abu Talib. It is said that there was no food in the valley of She'b-e-Abi Talib and they used to eat barks, roots and leaves of trees. Once the boycott was over, the whole family returned to Mecca.

HOUSE OF UMME HAANI

Umme Haani was the sister of Imam Ali (A.S.). Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W.) went to Meraaj from here and stayed here during Fathe-Makka. According to one riwayah (narration), on the night of Meraaj, the Prophet (S.A.W.) slept in this house as her guest. When Jibrail came with Buraak, the Prophet (S.A.W.) rode with him to Masjide Aqsa and then to the seven heavens. He returned to the house of Umme Haani.

KOH-E-ABU QUBAIS

On the left of Umme Haani's house is a mountainous range called Koh-e-Abu Qubais. This was the first and the biggest mountain range of those days. The ark of Prophet Nuh (A.S.) landed and passed here. Prophet Adam (A.S.) is also buried here. It is also the place where Prophet Muhammed ( S.A.W. ) was when he first declared the prophethood.
There are two more sacred places on Khoh-e-Abu Qubais. They are Masjide Bilal and Makam-e-Shak-ul-Qamar.

MASJIDE BILAL

There is a riwayah which says that after Fath-e-Makkah ( victory of Mecca ) the Holy Prophet always asked Bilal to climb up the mountain of Abu Qubais and call out Adhaan from there. A masjid was built here known as Masjide Bilal.

MAKAM-E-SHAK-UL-QAMAR

This place is on the mountain of Abu Qubais, a bit further than Masjide Bilal. One day, Abu Jahl said to the Prophet ( S.A.W. ):- "O Muhammed, we will only believe you as a Prophet, if you show us some miracle in the sky."
The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) asked what they would like to see. It was the night of the 14th of the month and it was full moon. So Abu Jahl asked the Prophet to show a miracle on full moon. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) pointed to the moon, it broke into two separate parts, and then joined together again. This is the miracle of Shak-ul-Qamar.

HOUSE OF ABU JAHL

This has now been converted to public baths and toilets.

MASJID-E-ALAM ( FLAG )

During Fath-e-Makkah, the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) used this road to enter Mecca city. The boundary of Mecca used to begin from here. The Prophet (S.A.W.) stood his Alam ( Flag ) on the ground here and prayed.

MASJID-E-JINN

One day the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) was reciting the Quraan when a group of Jinn flew past. They were greatly affected upon hearing the Holy words of the Quraan. They came to the Prophet, repented and accepted Islam. Their tawba was accepted. A masjid was later built here called Masjid-e-Jinn.

CAVE OF THAWR

During the Hijrah from Mecca to Madinah, the Holy Prophet ( S.A.W. ) with Abu Bakr stayed here for three days. The miraculous incident of a spider's web and a pigeon laying eggs occured at the mouth of this cave. This misled the trackers, preventing them from following the Prophet (S.A.W.).

CAVE OF HIRA ON MOUNT NUR

The Holy Prophet ( S.A.W. ) frequently used to come here to meditate. The first ' Wahee ' (revelation) of " Iqra Bismi Rabbek " took place here. This means that the Quraan was revealed here.

ARAFAT

This is the plain where the Hajees gather on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah. It is said that this is the first place where Prophet Adam ( A.S. ) and Bibi Havva met for the first time after they were asked to leave Jannat. Arafat mean " to know " and this is the place where they met and recognised each other for the first time in this world.

MUZDALIFAH

Prophet Adam ( A.S. ) and Bibi Havva met at Arafat and started their journey towards Kaaba, but the had to spend the night on the way, for they travelled on foot. They stayed overnight at a place which was later called Muzdalifah, which means a place where night is spent.

MINA

Nearer to Mecca is the plain of Mina. This is where the three Shaytans are situated.

MASJID-E-KHEEF

This masjid is in Mina. To pray 6 rakaat namaz in this masjid is highly recommended.

JABAL-E-RAHMAT

This is a small mountain in Arafat. One can climb it by steps. It is highly recommended to ask for duas and hajat at the top of Jabal-Le-Rahmat.
