ZIARATS OUTSIDE MADINAH CITY

BAGH-E-SALMAN FARSEE

(THEGARDENOFSALMAN-E-FARSEE )

Salman-e-Farsee was a slave of one Jew. When he met the Prophet ( S.A.W. ), he accepted Islam. Salman-e-Farsee's master came to know about this and increased the torture and punishment on Salman. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) requested Salman to ask his master for a fee which would set him free. The Jewish master said he wanted 400 trees of date palm and huge quantity of gold. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) with his Ashabs came to the Jew master, picked up a handful of earth which turned into gold and gave this to Salman's master. Then the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) with his own hands sowed the stones of 3 or 4 dates and asked his Ashabs, mainly Imam Ali ( A.S. ) to sow the rest. Miraculously, at that instance the trees grew bearing flowers and dates. The dates ripened and Salman was set free to go with the Prophet (S.A.W.).

BAGH-E-FADAK ( THE GARDEN OF FADAK )

The Garden of Fadak was a present to Bibi Fatema ( A.S. ) by her father. This is the most green part of Madina. After the death of Prophet ( S.A.W. ) the rulers of Madinah confiscated Bagh-e-Fadak. According to some riwayah, Bagh-e-Fadak actually stretched from Bagh-e-Salman to the plains of Khyber. Nowadays Bagh-e-Fadak and Bagh-e-Salman is inhabited by the shias. There is a masjid present in the Garden wherein the Prophet ( S.A.W. ), Imam Ali (A.S.) and Salman-e-Farsee had prayed Namaaz here.

MASJID-E-FAZEEKH

This is situated in the Garden of Fadak. In the courtyard of Masjid-e-Fazeekh is the well where Muslims used to come and drink alcohol, even after the call of prohibition. The Prophet (S.A.W.) came to know about it and came out to punish them. But before the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) reached them, they got the news of their punishment, and poured all the wine down the well and repented sincerely. When the Prophet (S.A.W.) reached the door of the Masjid, Jibrail brought the news that the wine drinkers must not be punished, as their tawbas were being accepted. When the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) came to the well, he raised the lid and saw that all the wine had turned into vinegar.

This Masjid-e-Fazeekh and the well are both still present.

MASJID-E-SHAMS

This was the place where once during a six day journey the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) rested his head in the lap of Imam Ali ( A.S . ) and fell asleep. He slept from before Zohr till nearly Maghrib. Imam Ali ( A.S. ) prayed sitting down and with the action of his eyes. Near the time of maghrib, the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) woke up and asked Imam Ali ( A.S. ) as to how he had prayed. Imam Ali (A.S.) explained. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) pointed his finger at the setting sun, which came up and both the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) and Imam Ali ( A.S. ) prayed Zohr and Asr Namaaz.

MASJID-E-QUBA

This Masjid is not very far from Masjid-e-Shams. This is the very first mosque of the Muslims, built even before Masjid-e-Nabawee. This is the first and the most foremost Masjid where Namaaz-e-Jamaat was prayed. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) when he first came to Madinah, waited and stayed here as Imam Ali ( A.S. ) and the family of the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) were still in Mecca. The Holy Prophet ( S.A.W. ) stayed here till the family joined him. This is about 3 miles from Madinah. When the Prophet started to leave Madinah, the people near Quba requested the Prophet (S.A.W.) to leave something behind as a souvenir. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) asked Abu Bakr to ride his camel and let it go freely. The camel refused to move. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) asked to release the camel, so that it could move but the camel did not budge. Then Imam Ali ( A.S. ) rode the camel and wherever the camel went, that area was included as part of Masjid-e-Quba. The Holy Prophet ( S.A.W. ) used to come at least once a week from Madinah to Quba and pray one day's Namaaz at Quba. There is a riwayah that one who does wudhu from his home and prays at Masjid-e-Quba gets the sawab of one Hajj and Umrah.

MASJID-E-JUM'A

After building Masjid-e-Quba when the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) proceeded towards Madinah, it was Friday. He stopped for Zohr and prayed Jum'a where he was. This was the first Jum'a prayed by the Mulsims and afterwards a Masjid was build here called Masjid-e-Jum'a.

MASJID-E-ZUL QIBLATAYN

Even after the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) came to Madinah, the Quibla was still Baytul Muqaddas. The jews used to taunt the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) that he did not have his own direction for prayers for his followers, and faced the Jewish Quibla whilst praying.

One day the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) was a guest at the house of one of his friends outside the city. When the time for Zohr came, the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) went to the nearby mosque to pray. He had only completed two rakat, when a ' wahee ' came to change his face from Baytul Muqaddas to Kaaba. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) changed the Quibla during Namaaz and according to one riwayah, all the Ashabs changed direction by 180 degrees, as Baytul Muqaddas and Kaaba are directly opposite. This meant that the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) was left behind his followers; he walked past the followers, came to the front and countinued the Zohr prayers. According to another riwayah, it is said that at that time only Imam Ali ( A.S. ) was praying behind the Prophet( S.A.W. ). The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) passed Imam Ali ( A.S. ) and lead the last two rakaats.

This masjid where Quibla was changed from Baytul Muqaddas to Kaaba is called Masjid-e-Qiblatayn or the Masjid of two Quiblas.

MAYDAAN-E-KHANDAQ

(THE BATTLEFIELD OF KHANDAQ )

This is where the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) had dug a trench and Muslims stayed here for 21 days. On the 21st day, the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) prayed for the Muslim's success. During these 21 days those famous Ashabs of the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) stayed in tents in this Maidaan, and now one can find several Masjids here.

MASJID-E-FATH

This Masjid is situated on the hill-top. Here Prophet ( S.A.W. ) stayed for three days in his tent and prayed for the success of the Muslims.

MASJID-E-SALMAN-E-FARSEE

At the bottom of Masjid-e-Fath, a tent was erected specially for Salman-e-Faree which later became known as Masjid-e-Salman-e-Farsee.

MASJID-E-IMAM ALI ( A.S. )

Opposite Masjid-e-Salman are two more Masjids on the hill. One of them is Masjid-e-Ali ( A.S. ) where the tent of Imam Ali ( A.S. ) was built.

MASJID-E-FATIMAH ZEHRA ( A.S. )

At the base of Masjid-e-Ali ( A.S. ) is Masjid-e-Fatimah Zehra ( A.S. ). This was used by Hazrat Fatimah Zehra ( A.S. ) for only a few hours or a few days during the battle of Khandaq.

MASJID-E-ABU BAKR and MASJID-E-UMR

This is where their tents were.

OHUD - HAZRAT HAMZA ( A.S. )

He was the uncle of the Prophet ( S.A.W. ). It has been narrated by the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) that whoever loves us will love Ohud. This is the place where the second Islamic war took place, and all the Ashabs ran away except for Imam Ali ( A.S. ). Here Imam Ali ( A.S. ) fought and nine of his swords broke whereafter, Jibrail brought Zulfiqar from Heaven. So this is the battlefield where Zulfiqar came down. Hazrat Hamza (A.S.) and other Shohada of Ohud are buried here. The Prophet ( S.A.W. ) has said that whoever does my ziyarat and does not do the ziarat of my uncle Hamza has been unfaithful to me. Bibi Fatema (A.S.) used to come once or twice a week to the grave of Hazrat Hamza ( A.S. ) and mourn him. Hazrat Hamza ( A.S. ) was regarded as Shahid-us- Shohada before Imam Husain ( A.S. ). This is the grave where the Prophet ( S.A.W. ) and other Masumeen ( A.S. ) visited and mourned.
Near the grave of Hazrat Hamza ( A.S. ) is the grave of Janabe Abdullah Bin Jahsh who was the cousin of the Prophet ( S.A.W. ).
Behind the grave of Hazrat Hamza is the place where other Shohadas of Ohud are buried in one grave.
