Elections 2009:- Message from the Electoral Commissioner on Registration of Voters

Updated 8 June 2009

Message from Electoral Commissioner on 03 June 2009

To:  The World Federation Members and Councillors

Salaamun Alaykum. I would like to provide you with an update on the Register of Voters I have received as at Tuesday, 2 June 2009 to highlight my concerns that the forthcoming election is not being taken seriously.  I am cognisant of the fact the deadline is 5 June 2009 and many more Jamaats may respond within this time span.

Members Number of Jamaats within Regional Body Number of Jamaats who provided Register of Voters
 Africa Federation 25 Two
 CoEJ 16 Eight
Council of Gujarat Waiting from them None
Kutch Federation Waiting from them One
 NASIMCO 16 Three
 Pakistan [3] Three
 Australia [3] None
 All other Members 3 None

In addition, some of the Registers received do not comply with the SOP requirements and I am following these up.

Furthermore, NASIMCO recently highlighted their difficulties and asked for an extension of the deadline for submission of Registers.

In view of the above, to comply with clause 6.2 of the SOP, I can extend the deadline to Thursday, 25 June 2009.  No further extension will be available or made.

May I once again request all Members and Councillors to put their joint efforts to ensure the election process is fairly represented and all grassroots members are given an opportunity to vote for the next President of our august body.

With Salaams,

Amir Somji
Electoral Commissioner
