The World Federation in partnership with NASIMCO, is working to provide financial support to provide quality education to the children of Al Mahdi School in Haiti. These children come from poverty stricken homes, and cannot afford school fees let alone a decent meal. Through the ZCSS Appeal for Haiti, The World Federation and NASIMCO hopes to give education to those who would otherwise end up on the streets.
About Al Mahdi Islamic School
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The Al Mahdi Islamic School is the only Shia Muslim school in Haiti. Children who are turned away from the school end up on the streets. Some of these children are orphans. All of these children live in poverty.
The Al Mahdi Islamic Centre and School was founded in September 2000 in Carrefour, Haiti. The original school building was entirely demolished in the earthquake of January 2010. A temporary school was rebuilt soon after the quake and was partly funded by The World Federation to shelter the children from the hot sun and rain. This modest establishment is run by a staff of eleven people, comprised of the Principal, eight teachers and two maids.
The school follows the Government education curriculum. All students are taught Islamic Studies 1 hour a day. Classes range from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6.

The Al Mahdi Islamic School is in dire need of financial support to be able to provide quality education to the children who come from poverty-stricken backgrounds and cannot afford the school fees. Since its inception and especially after the January 2010 earthquake, the school has faced severe financial hardships. It is the only Shia school in Haiti that teaches the Ahlul Bayt (as) school of thought.
