ZCSS student becomes teacher

Updated 24 August 2011

Gulamabbas Yusufali, from Bhavnagar in Gujarat has been sponsored by ZCSS to complete his education from primary school to a degree in Business Commerce.

The impact that ZCSS has on communities is immense, students who are sponsored never forget their communities. Gulamabbas is one student whose story is incredible.

Gulamabbas received an education through the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship scheme. He showed a great passion for education, studying at night when his family would be sleeping so that he wouldn’t be disturbed.

As an undergraduate studying Business Commerce, Gulamabbas never forgot his community. He travelled long distances to teach at children at the Vartej Madressah, Hussaini tuition centre and the Gulistan housing complex.

Vartej is a small town 13 km outside Bhavnagar. Vartej Madressah is teaching Shia children in Bhavnagar Quran, Dinyat, and Akhlaq. Gulamabbas is the only teacher here and the children look to Gulamabbas to teach them about Islam because without his dedication they would grow up not knowing their faith.

Hussaini tuition centre provides educational support to the children of the Khoja community in Bhavnagar. The centre depends on teachers to volunteer their time to help the students in subjects such as Science, Maths, and English. All the teachers are students such as Gulamabbas.

After teaching at Vartej Madressah and the Hussaini tuition centre Gulamabbas travels to Gulistan where The World Federation have a housing complex to teach Quran to the children.

It is impressive to know that Gulamabbas starts his day at 6:30am by studying for his undergraduate degree, and then teaches at the Vartej Madressah at 4:30pm. He then travels to Bhavnagar to teach at the Hussaini tuition centre at 6:30pm and then teaches at the Gulistan housing complex at 10:00 pm.

Gulamabbas did this everyday for the entire duration of his undergraduate degree, and provided so much to his community. I wonder how many students would have lost out on an education if Gulamabbas had not received support from the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme.

Gulamabbas is one of a kind, and the impact he has on the children is immeasurable. However many other students being sponsored by ZCSS mirror his story. When we hear of their commitment and their success, we at The World Federation have a saying, “Teach a child in a village today, tomorrow they will teach a classroom full of children.”

Today Gulamabbas is the administrator in Mahdi School in Bhavanagar, and he continues to teach young children in Gulistan, and run a tuition class.
