Islamic Education Ulama Conference: Mumbai – October 2010
It became clear that efforts in furthering Islamic Education were desperately needed. In order to discuss these requirements and to chart out a direction, Islamic Education organised a two-day conference of the scholars of Mumbai on 18 and 19 October 2010 through the efforts of selfless local volunteers. The theme of the conference was “The Tableegh Needs of Mumbai and The Role of the Scholars”.
Over 120 alims attended the conference over 2 days
The conference was well attended by over 120 alims. There were also community Tableegh workers and Trustees of prominent organisations present. Sayyid Mohammed Musawi also graced the occasion with his presence via video-link. The World Federation President, Dr Asghar Moledina, Africa Federation Chairman Al-Hajj Anwer bhai Dharamsi, as well as Africa Federation Honorary Secretary Al-Hajj Aunali bhai Khalfan were also present.

A number of dignitaries were present
A number of papers were presented which were followed by round table discussions. The papers presented were:
1. The History of Tableegh Efforts in Mumbai, delivered by Sayyid Maulana Qaysar Saheb
2. Tableegh Needs Assessment of Mumbai, delivered by Sayyid Ali Naqvi
3. The Role of the Ulama, delivered by Hujjatul Islam wal Muslimeen Sayyid Mohammed Musawi

Sayyid Muhammad Musawi delivered the third paper: The Role of the Ulama
The discussions were unanimously in favour of The World Federation devoting resources to enhancing Tableegh work in Mumbai and in assisting in the development of the Ulama. At the end of the conference, Dr Asghar Moledina, President of The World Federation, announced that The World Federation will be taking up this challenge and will Inshallah open a Tableegh office in the Mumbai area.
Dr Asghar Moledina commented, “The conference was a breath of fresh air and allowed the Ulama to express themselves genuinely. There is a huge need of our presence in Mumbai for Tableegh work and I am looking forward to The World Federation adding value to our community in Mumbai.”

Dr Asghar Moledina announced the establishment of a Tableegh Office in Mumbai
Sayyid Ali Naqvi, Assistant Secretary General for Islamic Education, stated, “We have felt the need for Tableegh work in Mumbai for some time. We were grateful to the Ulama and the people present for helping to guide our attention towards a competent and sustainable Tableegh strategy for Mumbai. The conference was made possible through the relentless efforts of our volunteers. I would like to specifically thank Al – Hajj Safder bhai Kermalli, President of Mumbai Jamaat for his support, Al – Hajj Javed bhai Shroff, WF Executive Councillor for his advice and guidance, and especially Al – Hajj Imtiyaz bhai Merchant for his relentless efforts in making this conference a success. We are now planning the Islamic Education Mumbai Office and we seek the support of the community, Inshallah.”
