‘Fill My Cup’ Appeal:  What can a mother do?

Updated 25 April 2011

What can a mother do when her children desperately need food and there is none?

Umazi is a young mother who has 9 children. She does not have a stable job to bring in steady income. The family’s daily expenses amount to $7 USD per day.

Umazi looks for part time work where ever she can to support her family. When Umazi can find work, she is able to meet her family’s expenses and save for a rainy day. However, given Kenya’s current dismal economic climate, work is hard to come by and she sometimes has no choice but to let her children skip meals.

When Umazi’s children go to school hungry, they cannot focus on learning. Studies show that hungry children tend to have lower math scores, are twice as likely to repeat a grade and three times as likely to be suspended from school.

When you donate to the Fill My Cup programme, Umazi’s children along with so many others in Kenya won’t have to suffer from hunger pangs while they are at school and madrasah. For as little as $36 USD-CAD / £24 GBP per year per child, your donation will continue to provide a hot porridge breakfast daily to these children. Your caring transforms a child’s life and the life of his or her family.

Umazi told us:  “Ever since the Fill My Cup programme began, my children are so active and do not create any issues in going to school.”
