Updated 20 January 2010
On 20 January 2010 at 6:03 am, the people of Haiti were surprised from their sleep by another strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1.
On the same morning, The World Federation learned that there are about 100 to 150 Shia Muslims in Haiti – where about 20 families live in Port au Prince and more in the city of Leogane. Our brother who survived the earthquake reported that the Al-Mahdi Centre in Haiti has been flattened by the quake and 7 children have lost their lives. Most of the Shia families are now homeless.
The World Federation will be working with our contacts that have provided this information to determine how to help these families.
The World Federation urges the community to donate to the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.
