Last week, The World Federation of KSIMC launched the Live Goat Appeal
The purpose of this scheme is to provide women groups in rural centres with live goats for rearing and breeding. It is aimed that each member of the rural centres should have a goat so that they are reared and bred to reproduce more.
By rearing and breeding goats, members benefit from the goats’ milk as well as boost their family income in the future by selling the surplus goats.
This week, we share some of the stories of the individuals who have benefitted from this appeal.
Anzazi Nyawa
Age: 73 years
Live Goat Beneficiary
Anzazi is married and has seven children, all of whom are married and working in Mombasa. Her husband is a farmer and Anzazi herself, owns a number of different businesses, such as selling mats and selling local eggs. She also has one goat that she received as part of the live goats scheme. Since being given the goat, it has given birth to a female kid. Azazi thanked the team as she now gets milk from her goats.
Elizabeth Nganga –Mwasafu
From the time Elizabeth Nganga received her goat, she has taken good care of it. She has no experience rearing goats before receiving her goat as part of the scheme. Elizabeth now benefits from the milk the goat gives – previously she used to purchase this from the shops. She also benefits from the manure the goat excretes as she uses this in her shamba for the vegetables that she grows, for example, cabbage, Sukumawiki, spinach etc. – by growing these vegetables, she also receives a good profit.

Luvuno Nyundo
Age: 35 years
Goat beneficiary
A mother to 5 children, Luvuno is married and lives around Mitsaphiani in Miamba area. She joined the Mujtaba Women group from the day it was formed and is an active member. She received a female goat in 2011. She uses the milk for tea for her and her family from the goat that was provided to her every single day. The goat gave birth to kids and Luvuno now has 6 goats. She looks forward to having more goats in the future. She is very proud of her goats and thanked the team for giving her the first initial goat.

The World Federation of KSIMC hopes to raise £5,200 / $7,800 to provide 200 goats as part of the Live Goat Scheme. It costs only Can $ 39 / US $ 39 / GBP 26 to pay for one goat.
