Our families in Sri Lanka are always grateful to the support provided to them through the Ramadhan Relief Fund. Thanks to their ongoing du’as, The World Federation is able to assist them year after year.
This year, Muslims living in the Sri Lankan towns of Wattala, Mabole, Ragama, Akbar Town, Wanawasala, Hunupitiya, Peralanda, Giriulla, Kurunegala, Seeduwa, Negombo, Chilaw, Kalpitiya, Puttalam, Valachchenai and Nuwara Eliya benefited from the Ramadhan Relief program where:
.
• Bountiful food packs were distributed among 400 families to enable them to fast in peace during the month of Ramadhan.
• Financial support was provided to families to allow them to purchase essential goods and services or to help settle debts.
• Families were assisted in re-building their homes that were damaged from floods. The walls of most of the houses are built out of wooden planks, therefore, when the wood perishes, they have to be replaced. On a continuous basis (not only during Ramadhan) assistance is provided to most of the houses, to enable them to fill their houses with debris and earth, so that the rain water and flood waters would not get into their homes.
• Special programmes were conducted to commemorate memorable events such as the Wiladat of Imam Hassan (as), Wafat of Bibi Khadija (as), Wafat of Imam Ali (as) and the holy nights of Lailatul Qadr.
• Many programmes were conducted during this holy month and each programme consisted of recitation of Dua-e-Fajr, Dua Iftitah, lectures, namaaz, and Iftaar.
DISTRIBUTION OF RAMADHAN PACKS: WATTALA AREA
Approximately 250 food packs were distributed among the Rozedars in the Wattala area which included the following towns: Wattala, Mabole, Ragama, Akbar Town, Wanawasala, Hunupitiya, Peralanda, Seeduwa and Negombo.
DISTRIBUTION OF RAMADHAN PACKS - VALACHCHENAI
Valachchenai is a town in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka where about 25 food packs were distributed to families living there.
DISTRIBUTION OF RAMADHAN PACKS: CHILAW AREA
About 35 Ramadhan food packs were distributed among the poor and needy Muslims living in Chilaw, Kalpitiya, Giriulla, Kurunegala, Seeduwa, Negombo and Puttalam areas.
After the distribution was made, a talk on the Blessings of the Holy Month of Ramadhan and about our Holy Prophet Muhammad (S) was delivered by Brother Haris Jalill.
DISTRIBUTION OF RAMADHAN PACKS & SEWING MACHINES
During a Tableegh project carried out in Nuwara Eliya earlier this year, it was discovered that none of the poor and needy Muslims living here ever receive any aid during Ramadhan. Nuwara Eliya is a tourist destination, most of the people living here are very poor. The town is very small and except for tea estates, there are very few opportunities for people to earn a decent living. Therefore, 55 families were identified and were gifted with Ramadhan food packs this year.
3 sewing machines were gifted to three very needy families to empower them to earn a living. Some garment factories in Nuwara Eliya sew jerseys especially for the local market. These factories contract the services of small entrepreneurs to sew for them by giving them the cut pieces. This is the only way that women here are able to earn a decent living.
One of these sewing machines was given to a very deserving family whose house had been burnt to the ground due to an electrical fault. Fortunately, no one was home during the fire. They are now living in a small house which was built with the help of the Mayor and some well wishers.
After the distribution, a talk on the importance of the Holy Month of Ramadhan and the benefits of fasting was delivered by Brother Haris Jalill and Sister Zaveeni Jalill.

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES – IFTAAR
On alternate days, groups of people were invited to break fast. Special programmes were conducted to commemorate the Nights of Laylatul Qadr, the wiladat of Imam Hassan (as), the wafat of Bibi Khadija (as) and the Wafat of Imam Ali (as).
