Az-Zahra Madressah have so far raised $5,000 for Orphans of Iraq, aiming to raise a target of $10,000

"When you buy a flower pen today, think of a child’s heart you will touch!" The current war in Iraq has resulted in a numerous loss of innocent lives. Young, helpless children now find themselves in the unpleasant state of being an orphan. Losing one’s parents can be devastating, and none of us can even imagine how it would feel to be an orphan. The loss of a father or a mother, coupled with the fundamental need of survival in a country still at war, is a tall order for anyone, let alone an innocent, helpless, child. Such is the state in Iraq today, where hundreds of orphans need our help.

When the students at Az-Zahra Madressa of New Jersey found out about the plight of the orphans of Sadr City, Iraq and, specifically, the fact that the World Federation had names of 300 orphans who were waitlisted due to lack of funds, they decided to get involved and make a difference.
The students of the Madressa were inspired to create homemade items, such as flower pens, bookmarks, audio CDs and chocolate lollipops for sale in their neighborhoods and schools. The children sold the flower pens made by themselves in large numbers. "When you buy a flower pen today, think of a child’s heart you will touch!" has been their call!
The parents also pitched in by donating various items for a bake sale that was held in January at the Madressa. On the occasion of Eid-e-Ghadeer, the students took their fundraising efforts to the nearby New York Jamaat; and then in the month of Muharram, extended it to the Allentown Jamaat of Pennsylvania.
The students have become aware that as Muslims it is our duty to help all of humanity, in particular, children who have become orphans.
Az-Zahra students have reached halfway to their goal! As of present they have raised $5,000(US).
Phase II of the fundraising effort will involve selling SILICONE WRIST BANDS which will have the inscription "SALAM - PEACE" on them. The students hope to Inshallah sell these bands to both Muslims and Non-Muslims and reach their goal of $10,000 which will go towards helping the 200 orphans of Sadr City who have been waitlisted.
May Allah (SWT) help these children continue their efforts to help children in need! The Logo of the students is "Children of Madressa Helping Children in Need - CMCN"!
