Panjtan Youth of Melbourne organise fundraising for Orphans of Iraq
The Panjtan Youth of Melbourne, Australia organised a cricket match on 26th June 2005 to raise funds for the orphans of Sadr City in Iraq. This was played between the Panjtan Society Youth and the Panjtan Society Seniors.
The primary aim of this event was to raise awareness of the plight of the Iraqis and to take a first step towards an ongoing contribution towards this cause. Despite the sweltering heat on the day of the event, participants played the best of three 12-over games. The first two games were won by each team leading to a final showdown, in which the Seniors won by 2 runs. The event succeeded in raising £500 towards this noble cause.
The Panjtan Youth plan on undertaking further fundraising activities for this cause during the months of Muharram and Safar.
