Online users of Shiachat.com raise $2,200 to aid the Orphans of Iraq
Shiachat.com, a renowned online forum for Muslim Shias around the world is helping ZCSS to support the orphans of Iraq. Webmaster, Ali Albahrani who initially suggested the idea of sponsoring an orphan in Iraq for $480, was overwhelmed by the positive and generous response from the 10,000+ members of the site.
Ali Albahrani, initially posting the idea on Shiachat.com:
“The cool part is, we will get a picture of this orphan and an up-to-date profile of how he/she is doing. It'll be like he/she's ShiaChat's little brother/sister. Please only reply if you know for sure you can donate anything to reach our first goal of one Orphan for a year ($US480).”
After just one month a total of $2,200 was raised to help sponsor 5 Iraqi orphans for a whole year. This generous contribution will help provide each child with a real education, clothing and shelter. Profiles and pictures of these children have also been posted on the website and users will receive regular correspondence, updates and letters concerning the progress of the children as they embark on their newly liberated lives.
By the grace of Allah (SWT), we have reached the halfway mark and received full sponsorship funds for 147 orphans. There is still a long way to go if we are to reach our target of 300 orphans. It is only with your continued support that we can improve the lives of these young Shia children who have experienced poverty, war and famine.
ZCSS is accepting sponsorship for individual children, which can either be done through full payments or instalments over a period of time. Alternatively, if you do not wish to commit to sponsorship there is also the option to simply donate whatever amount you can and we will pool these funds together to sponsor a child.
