The World Federation is proposing to build 14 semi-permanent structures to serve as Islamic Centres and Husainiyyahs for approximately two years. These will then be superceded by permanent structures which will start to be built at that time.
A Muslim community is build around its mosques and Husainiyyahs. This community bond is particularly true at the time of Muharram and Safar when the events of Karbala are remembered. With the emotional impact of the earthquake, and the love of Imam Husain (AS), the residents of Bam need these centres now, more than ever. They need to come together, remember the family of the Prophet, have places to pray, congregate and mourn. They need to have places to grieve for their own losses and the family members who were killed in the earthquake. Without the structures that the World Federation is proposing, the community will have no heart, and nowhere to remember Imam Husain (AS).
The total cost of building the 14 Husainiyyahs is approximately US$126,000 (£70,000), that is only US$9,000 (about £5,000) per Husainiyyah: the cost of rebuilding a community, the cost of putting the heart back into Bam. US$9,000 is the cost of giving a Shia Muslim the chance to remember Imam Husain (AS).
