The World Federation is proud to announce that Haiderali Husain Khaki won the 'Non-Resident-Indian of the Year' Student Award (sponsored by Times Now and ICICI Bank India) on Monday 24th March 2014.
Haiderali Husain Khaki is a graduate MBBS student in London, having previously attained a First Class Honours BSc degree in Global Health Sciences. In addition to attaining stellar grades throughout medical school, he has not only demonstrated academic proficiency but also enthusiasm for studies well-beyond the normal curriculum.
He has won national awards like David Williams price, Cochrane price, Royal Society of Medicine Global Health Young Leaders award and is working on a project exploring HIV-TB with Dr. Channa Jayasena.
As someone with a proud Indian heritage, Husain has sought to embody the best of India's culture and ethics. This has culminated his initiatives like the recent award for the Academic Foundation Programme. He has been fortunate in securing a prestigious junior lectureship role as a junior doctor in Central London.
His focus over the next 2 years will be on exploring early life influences in order to mitigate the effects of malnutrition, as well as contributing to a screening programme aimed at reducing the worldwide prevalence (and effects) of Tuberculosis.
He wants to set up an Indian Alliance. Under the tutelage of Professor Ajit Lalvani. Husain hopes to explore ways in which he may be able to contribute to improving India's contribution to Public Health.
He is actively involved in attending conferences, and exploring ways of achieving India's health care goals for its next 5-year plan.
