The President of The World Federation visits Toronto Canada on his North American Tour

Updated 11 September 2013

Dr. Asghar Moledina, President of The World Federation of KSIMC visited Toronto from August 22nd to 30th.  During his stay he visited ISIJ Toronto (JCC), MARC (JCC), Kitchener, and Brampton. Dr. Moledina had the opportunity to attend Jamaat functions, address the community and spend time and interact with community members in Toronto.

During his time at the center in Bathurst and at the Masumeen Islamic Center in Brampton, Dr. Moledina was excited to brief the audience on The World Federation’s largest project of the term – The Madressa Centre of Excellence (MCE).  He touched on why the MCE is so important, the logic behind the project and the impact it will have on the madaris. He also spoke about the other projects that the members of The World Federation are involved in, including eradicating poverty within the Khoja community and connecting the various Khoja communities around the world. The update was well received by the community.

While in Toronto, Dr. Moledina was happy to participate in the charity walk to raise funds for Jaffari Center and also toured the Wali ul Asr School in Brampton.  The school is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 school that strongly believes that Muslim children and youth can integrate into society as ambassadors of their faith and become leaders rather than followers.  Dr. Moledina said, “This school is a first class institute which makes us proud and gives us hope for the future.”

Dr. Moledina also visited the Mulla Asghar Memorial Library & Islamic Resource Center (MARC) on August 24th & 25th.  He toured the center and met with the members of MARC and was given an update on their recent activities. He said, “MARC is a true legacy of the founder of The World Federation, and I pray that this centre grows in leaps and bounds over the coming years.”

On August 26th, the President met with the Executive committee of the Kitchener Jamaat, where several items were discussed.  He was briefed on the activities of the Jamaat and Dr. Moledina shared the progress of The World Federation.

To complete his visit, Dr. Moledina attended the opening ceremony of the Al-Wahda Sports Tournament.   He was accompanied by Sayyid Maulana Rizvi, Gulamabbas Najafi - President of NASIMCO, Shabbir Jivraj, -President of ISIJ, Shafiq Ebrahim, Chairman of Al Wahda Sports Festival and Raza Alibhai – Chairman of Jaffari Sports and Recreation Board.  This was the first North American Sports Festival and with sport activities, a carnival, a charity walk, day care services and food stalls everyone was catered to.

Geared towards promoting the spirit of brotherhood and unity, the Al Wahda Sports Festival achieved its motto through the various activities uniting families under one roof at the JCC. Team playing and unity was displayed during the games of tennis, table tennis, volleyball, soccer, basketball and badminton where it was essential to victory.

Dr. Moledina said, “I am pleased to see the unity and camaraderie amongst the members of the community.  The success of this tournament is a result of hard work and dedication of several people and the biggest achievement is bringing together so many people who played hard and still maintained team work and friendship.”

It was a busy week for the President, but one that proved to be successful in connecting with the community in Toronto.
