A Meeting called by Dr Husein Jiwa, the President of The Council of European Jamaats with Dr Asgharali Moledina, the President of The World Federation of KSIMC
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Council of European Jamaats (CoEJ) President, Dr Husein Jiwa and his Councillors had a meeting with Dr Asgharali Moledina, President of the World Federation of KSIMC (WF) and his team on 2 January 2010, to discuss the current situation and the way forward.
The meeting and discussions were very constructive and all present had an opportunity to give their thoughts and feelings; and suggest ways of moving forward.
CoEJ Resolution
A deliberation on the CoEJ Resolution as intimated to the World Federation of KSIMC took place. Dr Moledina humbly acknowledged the sentiments at the meeting regarding the CoEJ Resolution, particularly the spirit of the Resolution to call the Conference within 120 days. He gave his assurance that together with his office bearers they were in favour of holding a Conference. However, he made it clear that the final decision to hold a Conference will rest with the Executive Council of the WF as per clause 9.1 of WF Constitution. Discussion took place on the timing of the Executive Council (EXCO) Meeting. Questions were raised as to why there was a delay to hold this meeting. Dr Moledina intimated that the meeting should be duly convened with all WF members being allowed sufficient time to apply for visas, to ensure maximum participation. There was a consensus that inclusivity from all the Regional Bodies and members of WF should be taken into consideration in deciding the venue and timing of the meeting and conference. He stated that he has consulted a number of Councillors, however, he is going to consult further with all WF Councillors by email before the 10 January 2010 regarding the current proposed date of the 27 February 2010 for the EXCO meeting. Dr Jiwa welcomed the opportunity of holding the EXCO meeting in UK.
Agenda of the Executive Council (EXCO) Meeting
There was discussion that the EXCO Meeting was not called solely to deliberate on the Resolutions and concerns were noted. It was stated that this item would be the key deliberation area with sufficient time allocated. A suggestion was given to hold the Executive Council Meeting over two days with one day on the important Resolutions and one day to discuss all the progress reports. The decision and agenda for the Extraordinary Conference would be agreed by the Executive Council. It was felt that calling the Extraordinary Conference by a postal ballot would not allow appropriate deliberations to take place as stated in the Resolution.
Rebuilding the Trust
The sentiments of the meeting were crystal clear that The World Federation of KSIMC, Regional Bodies and Members had to do more work on re-building the trust, especially at grassroots level and constructively change perceptions. It was felt that this would be achieved by Dr Moledina engaging with the grassroots at Jamaat level and directly addressing their alleged concerns. The CoEJ Councillors present confidently stated that those European Jamaats that had given a platform to Dr Moledina for dialogue had improved the situation by allaying the fears and concerns of their grassroots. It was felt that all Jamaats should consider inviting Dr Moledina for dialogue.
Dr Moledina was asked as to how he would build trust in the current existing climate in the community. He passionately stated ‘I will work to build greater transparency in the institution of WF and I have asked my team to look into the allegations.’ He further stated ‘we will engage, involve and empower the Executive Councillors and the Regional Members in the affairs of WF. We will also strengthen Regional Federations and keep the interest of the community paramount. Our actions will demonstrate this.’
We pray to Allah (SWT) to guide us.
