External Liaison desk meets with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The World Federation joined other Muslim groups to meet with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office earlier this week.

The meeting was an excellent opportunity for the World Federation to highlight the work it does in the wider community. This included the organisation’s most recent efforts of implementing programmes for clean water run by the youth, demonstrating how as a Muslim community the spirit of volunteerism is cultivated in the young.

The Rt. Hon Jack Straw MP, the current British Foreign Secretary, highlighted how a close relationship and dialogue between the government and the Muslim community is more important today than ever.  He stressed that those who spread a profoundly distorted image of Islam with the aim of fomenting division, fear and hatred cannot and should not be allowed to succeed.  Mr Straw highlighted the contribution made by Muslims in all walks of life in the United Kingdom and today this country has been all the better and stronger for its religious and cultural diversity which should not be tolerated but celebrated.

The attendance of the World Federation was testament to the organisation’s commitment to working for the betterment of the Muslim community, in co-operation with other Muslim groups, as brothers and sisters within the wider Muslim ummah.

The World Federation was represented by the Treasurer Brother Azad Kanani and the Chair of the External Liaison desk Dr. Akber Mohamedali.
