Updated 12 May 2009
The World Federation held its 8th Executive Council meeting on Sunday 3 May 2009 in Paris, France. At the meeting, one of the agenda items discussed was an NGO work plan for the term 2009 -2011. This is a three year initiative aimed at enhancing the opportunities available as a result of The World Federation’s NGO status.
A draft work plan was deliberated upon at the NGO development seminar a day before the meeting, (click here to learn more about the NGO development seminar) incorporating the thoughts, views and comments of all the Councillors present. After further discussions and inclusion of amendments to the work plan at the Executive Council meeting, the Councillors signed off on the proposal
This work plan has been organised to answer the following three key questions:
Where do we need to go?
The World Federation has developed a four-stage strategic process for the NGO status, in order to maximize the benefits of the NGO status:
- Stage 1: Enhancing the Structure
- Stage 2: Creating Sustainable Networks
- Stage 3: Extending Influence
- Stage 4: Seeking external resources
Where are we now (May 2009)?
This section provides details on what The World Federation has carried out so far.
How will we get there?
This section provides detail activities over every 6 months, that The World Federation and regional federations will have to carry out.
The work plan will use the ‘Traffic-Light system’ for monitoring and communicating the achievement of activities laid out in the plan. The ‘Traffic light system’ is a self assessment tool intended to assist in evaluating performance and identifying learning needs. By using this system, The World Federation can easily monitor its achievements whilst at the same time identify areas where further work may be required.
Shan-E-Abbas Hassam, Assistant Secretary General for Relief & Economic Development stated: ‘The work plan is essentially a method of prioritising the work that The World Federation will do over the coming years and a way in which we can be accountable and transparent about this work.’
Imran Janmohamed, the NGO Manager stated: ‘The work plan is ambitious and helps us focus on the work that we will need to do. We have learnt a great deal so far and implementing this road plan will enable us to have access to a range of tools that will help our community increase the quality of the projects that we undertake.’
