Education does not only benefit those who have the opportunity to study, but also those who are benefited by their knowledge.  One of the key aims of The World Federation Education Board is to make knowledge widely available to their community members.
 
There are many outstanding students in our community who can apply for scholarships and fulfil their dreams to their full potential.  This article will provide these students and other worthy students a list of scholarship schemes available around the world in the year 2013.

1. ExploraVision Awards
Scholarship Value: $10,000
Awards Available: 40
Award Deadline: January 31, 2013

All projects must meet the following requirements:

1. All entrants must be United States or Canadian citizens or legal residents, living within the United States, U.S. Territories or Canada and enrolled full-time in a public, private or home school

2. Students must be no older than 21 years of age

3. National Science Teachers Association employees, NSTA board members, ExploraVision judges and their respective families are not eligible to enter the competition

4. Any project that has won at ExploraVision's regional and/or national levels may not be re-submitted in future years

5. Any project previously awarded a prize in another competition may not be submitted

6. Any student who was selected as a regional or national finalist in the 1992 – 2012 ExploraVision can only compete in subsequent years with a new team — i.e., with students who have not previously been selected as ExploraVision regional or national finalists

2. Champlain Scholarship
Scholarship Value: $20,000
Awards Available: 2
Award Deadline: March 1, 2013

Awarded to entering students of exceptionally high academic achievement and promise. These scholarships have an overall value of $20,000 consisting of $5,000 in the first year and $5,000 in each of the succeeding three years providing that an academic average of 80% is maintained in five credits or equivalent in each academic year.

3. Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
Scholarship Value: $25,000
Awards Available: 1100
Award Deadline: February 28, 2013

Scholarship Applicants must:

1. Be high school seniors or be current undergraduate students

2. Plan to enrol in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university for the entire 2012–13 academic year (excluding proprietary and online schools)

3. Plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Engineering/Technology or select Design and Business-related programs of study. See the list of eligible majors.

4. Be interested in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries

5. Be U.S. citizens and have permanent residence in the United States

Excluded from consideration are employees and relatives of employees of Scholarship Management Services, Scholarship America and their affiliates and subcontractors, and GM Foundation Directors, Officers, and staff and their relatives. Although GM employees are not eligible, relatives of General Motors employees are eligible.

4. The Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan
The Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is a programme whereby Commonwealth countries offer education and training opportunities to each other’s citizens. Since their inception in 1959, approximately 26,000 individuals have benefited from this programme to pursue advanced academic study. About 2/3 of the awards have been tenable in the UK.

In 2009, 71 UK based universities supported the scholarship by contributing the stipend for the students from their own resources or from other resources. Programmes and prospectuses also exist for individuals in mid-career fellowships and wanting to learn by distance learning on a shared funding basis, are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC). 5. UNESCO Fellowship Bank Scheme
 If you are planning to study education, the natural sciences, the social sciences, humanities, culture, communication and information or informatics, you can apply for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) grant through your local national commision.

There are also country specific, charity specific and institution specific awards available. Websites such as KnowUK can help you find a grant suitable for you.

6. British Chevening Scholarships
Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarships programme. These scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one-year Masters’ degrees – for students with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers.

Chevening Scholarships are for talented people who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields, including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion, and academia.

Chevening Scholarships are currently offered in approximately 110 countries, in most regions of the world. In the current academic year, there are over 700 Chevening scholars at universities across the UK.

7. Royal Society Fellowships
The Royal Society offers incoming fellowships for researchers from North America and Asia. The aim is to attract outstanding postdoctoral scientists to undertake high-quality research at a UK laboratory.

The fellowships are available for up to two years for postdoctoral researchers in the USA and Canada and up to one year if you are from Asia.

The research undertaken must relate to a subject within the natural sciences. Awards are not granted in the areas of social sciences or clinical medical research.
