The Az Zahra Association (AZA) of Sri Lanka celebrated “Islamic Women’s Day” by commemorating the Birth Anniversary of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (sa), the beloved daughter of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (S) on 13th June 2009.
The programme commenced with the recitation of Qirath followed by Ziyarat for Hazrat Fatima Zahra (sa). The Welcome address was delivered by Sister Zaveeni Jalill, Hon. President of the Az Zahra Association, who graciously welcomed and thanked everyone for their presence and participation and delivered a heart warming talk on Hazrat Fathima Zahra (sa) as well.
Eminent and distinguished speakers also addressed the gathering, including His Excellency Mahmoud Rahimi Gorji, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Seyed Mahmoud Reza Marandi, Cultural Counsellor, Cultural Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mrs. Marzook Mohamed, Principal of Dehiwela Meelad Muslim Maha Vidyalaya, Dehiwela and several other speakers who delivered talks in the Sinhalese and Tamil languages as well.
In between the talks, melodious “Qaseedah’s” and Poems were rendered by the students of several Muslim schools and orphanages from Colombo and the outstation areas. Valuable gifts were distributed among all the students who participated and hijab material packs were also presented to all the schools who participated, thanks to the generosity of well wishers in Sri Lanka and abroad.
This memorable occasion was attended by a large gathering of distinguished guests, some of whom were members of other Muslim Associations in Sri Lanka and students of many Muslim schools from Colombo and outstations and all members of the Az Zahra Association.
A vote of thanks was delivered by the Secretary of AZA, Sister Ameena Zahran. To conclude the event, every one stood up and recited Salawat for our Holy Prophet Muhammad (S).
Sr. Zaveeni Jallil expressed: “We only hope and pray that the Blessings of Allah (SWT), our Holy Prophet (S) and the Ahlul Bayt (AS) will always be with each and every one of us and May Allah (SWT) continue to give us the opportunity of commemorating this memorable occasion for many more years to come. Ameen.
