Updated 07 July 2009
The World Federation officially opened the Zainabiya Health Centre (ZHC) in Lucknow in September 2004. An initial sum of approximately £40,000.00 in total was allocated by The World Federation for purchasing necessary equipment for the Aeinullah Eye Clinic, Zainabiya Health Centre and an ambulance for its patients. The ZHC was initially only providing assistance for secondary care and referring the needy patients for specialist consultations and surgery.
There was a need to have all the services under one roof. Dr Abbas Zaidi and Maulana Safi Haider of Tanzeemul Makatib in consultation with Dr Munir M Datoo, the Assistant Secretary General for Health, decided to extend the services provided by the current Zainabiya Health Centre into a polyclinic. It was felt that this will not only provide a better service to the local community, but will also provide value money for specialist care.
Zainabiya Polyclinic opened on the 14th of June 2009 to coincide with the Wiladat of Bibi Fatema (AS).
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ZAINABIYA POLYCLINIC
To provide primary health services and specialist care that is either at par or better than other private medical institutions to members of the Shia Muslim community living in poverty in the area.
CENTRE OPERATION
- A General Physician and a Gynaecologist will run a 3 hours clinic five days a week;
- The General Physician will asses patients who need specialist care and will refer them to specialists within the Zainabiya Health Centre;
- Depending on the needs, a specialist will visit the Zainabiya Health Centre once a week;
- The centre will have facilities for minor surgeries, pap smears, ECGs and basic investigations. This set up will not only be cost effective for the Zainabiya Health Centre, but it will also generate income to help finance the cost of operating the Zainabiya Health Centre.
- The Health Centre is expected to be self-funding in 12 months.
Dr Munir M Datoo is keen to have all Zainabiya Health Centres to be self-funding. The World Federation is always looking to improve health facilities in poor areas within India where our communities have identified the need to open such centres.
