This past Muharram, the Az Zahra Association (AZA) of Sri Lanka held special programmes and events to commemorate the events of Karbala.  These programmes included:

• Daily majalises after Maghribain during the first ten days of Muharram
• 5 packets of lunch distributed daily among the poor and needy Muslims (until  Arbaeen) in memory of the Ahlul Bayt (AS)
• 14 packets of lunch distributed among the poor and needy Muslims each Friday in the memory of the 14 Masoomeen

On the 9th of Muharram, the Az Zahra Association welcomed special guests to their centre. These included the Cultural Counselor of the Iranian Embassy – Mr. Mehdi Rokni, and his wife Mrs. Rokni as well as a guest from Iran – Mr. Hosseini from the Ahlul-Bayt World Assembly.

The programme commenced at 4:00 pm amidst a large gathering of followers of the Ahlul Bayt (AS). The Honorary President of the Az Zzhra Association, Sister Zaveeni Jalill welcomed the special guests on behalf of all those present. Brother Haris Jalill (AZA Advisor) then addressed the gathering and spoke briefly on the importance of the month of Muharram.

The Cultural Counselor, Mr. Mehdi Rokni spoke about Imam Husayn (AS) and the incidents of Karbala, which brought tears to the eyes of everyone present. Special guest, Mr. Hosseini then recited Ziyarate Ashoora so beautifully, that everyone was in tears just listening to him. The AZA president said:  “These special guests were a gift to us from our beloved Imam Hussain (AS).”

Before leaving, the visitors distributed copies of the Holy Quran to all those present. All of the participants were thankful for this wonderful gift.
