On Wednesday 17 September 2008, the Wessex Jamaat is holding “Bring a Friend Day” at Al-Mahdi Mosque in Wickham. For this event, the youth of the community invite friends, teachers, inter-faith groups and neighbours to come and participate in the Ramadhan Iftaar programme.

The evening will consist of a short programme organised solely by the children of Wessex Jamaat, Maghrib and Isha Salaat and finally Iftaar. Alhamdulliah, this programme has been running for a number of years where each year, more and more interest is shown.

The following are some comments from participants who attended last year:

'' I really enjoyed the evening as it was really interesting to see how you all are united as a community especially in prayer.''

''I have now understood the meaning of being a Muslim by what I have seen today. I really liked the concept of the female guests having to wear a head scarf when they come to the mosque as it felt like we were proper Muslims.''

''I really enjoyed myself and felt very welcomed into the community by the youth coming up to us and introducing themselves. You really took care of our needs and we never felt short of anything.''
