Muharram 1431:  Report from Bosnia

Updated 12 January 2010

Our Muslim brothers and sisters in Bosnia commenced their Muharram programme on 17 December 2009.  This year, the Jamaat watched Br. Hasnain Rajabali’s lectures which he had delivered to Al-Amaan Jamaat of Sydney in 2006.

Over the 10 nights, the members heard 5 DVD’s.  As the lectures were in English, a translation as given to the audience while watching the DVD's.   Despite not having a live speaker, the non-English speaking audience gained significant knowledge and information from his lectures.  Many of the brothers and sisters who attended the centre also suggested that the DVD be produced with Bosnian subtitles.

Ashura day was commemoreated at Sarajevo Husainiyya, where Muslims from all over Bosnia came to mourn together.  The main lecture was delivered by Shaykh Akbar Eydi.

One member stated: ‘I have never heard a Muslim speaker with so much dedication and devotion.  A very interesting delivery.’

Another said, ‘What I have understood from these lectures is that we must become strong in our basic principles, and our elementary beliefs in order to be able to properly represent Islam in this part of the world.’
