WF Qum Office Commemorates Shahadat of Imam Sadiq (as)

Updated 26 October 2011

A majlis to commemorate the shahadat of Imam Sadiq (as) was held at Dar al-Zahra by the WF Qum Office. The lecture was delivered by Hujjatul Islam Sheikh Hamza Saudagar who spoke about some very important issues in his lecture, including:

Understanding the needs of society: Sheikh Hamza explained that it was the duty of religious scholars to keep up with the pace of society and cited examples from the lives of our Imams (as).

Sound Analysis of Situations: Sheikh explained the importance of alertness and care in the analysis of society, and mentioned the Islamic awakenings in the Middle East, and how people were desirous for freedom that was attracting them towards religion and piety.

The role of an Alim: He then pointed out that the role of an Alim has undergone tremendous change over the past few years. The issues that were faced by Alims in the past are no longer the current situation. He stressed that the role of an Alim is not just limited to the mosque, leading prayers and collecting religious dues, but rather a true Alim must be able to understand a society, its problems and offer solutions.

Comprehension of Religion: As students of Imam Mahdi (atfs) the Sheikh invited us to have a deep understanding of our religion. This does not happen through reading many books and studying different scholarly works that have been penned; rather, a student of Islamic theology must be able to look at a society closely and solve its problems through the teachings of Islam.

Self Purification: Finally, Sheikh spoke about self-purification as a means to achieve the ultimate goal. The aim of every student must be to purify himself before he can embark on the journey to enlighten others about Islam.
