The World Federation’s Support to External Tableegh: Short Course for Muballigheen of BMMK

In Muharram (December 2010), The World Federation Islamic Education team and Africa Federation sponsored a short course of the Muballigheen of Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya. The course was conducted by Shaykh Ayub Rashid and was held in Mombasa.
 
Overview of the Course
 
The seminar ran from 20-30 December 2010 and was conducted in Swahili, the mother tongue of the Muballigheen. The course covered a number of key topics including:
 
1. Purification (Taharat), its different types, and looking closely at the verse of wudhu
 
2. Prayers (Salaat), individual prayers, congregational prayers, and Friday prayers)
 
3. Issues of Marriage and Divorce
 
4. Development of a Muballigh
 
5. Prophethood, the status of prophets, Imamat, and the 12 Imams (as)
 
6. The Qur’an, its recitation, and its translation / commentary
 
7. Hadith and Shia collections of hadith
 
8. The history of the first three Khalifas and the issue of Caliphate
 
9. The Shia school of thought, its branches, and how it spread in East Africa
 
10. The issue of cultural diversity and how this impacts upon the work of Tableegh
 
Participants were Muballigheen and Imams from different centres that are under the supervision of Bilal Muslim Mission, and also some other Muballigheen that were working at other organisations. A total of 21 Imams of masjids and Islamic teachers (Muallims) attended the workshop.
 
Shaykh Ayub commented, "I would like to thank Maulana Sayyid Alireza Naqvi for appointing me to facilitate the seminar and to make all the necessary arrangements. I would also like to thank Bilal Muslim Mission of Mombasa and its chairman for organising the very important seminar of its kind in East Africa for the Imams and Muballigheen from different parts of Kenya and Tanzania."

Sayyid Aliraza Naqvi said, "This course was first envisioned after the Islamic Education team's visit to Mombasa in August 2010. I am grateful for Shaykh Ayub for sacrificing his vacation time and for accepting our invitation to conduct this course. I am also thankful to Al-Hajj Abbas bhai Nasser for his leadership in establishing this course in Mombasa, as well as Africa Federation for their partnership in this. The feedback has been excellent and this is an initative that I am hopeful will continue in the future. The Muballigheen in Africa need support and regular training - this will keep up their momentum and ensure that they have up to date skills and knowledge to serve the cause of Islam."
