Muballigheen Training Programme observations

Updated 20 October 2010

On 15th September 2010, the Muballigheen Training Programme (MTP) – Master of Arts (MA) Programme Committee held its second meeting. This Committee consists of the University of Winchester and IIPS officials. The Committee is responsible for the smooth running of the programme which includes ensuring that quality control is maintained.

The following points were highlighted at the meeting:

• The MA programme (through the internet and a one-week intensive course in Damascus) revealed that the face to face delivery of the Modules is a great strength to the curriculum design and this will continue to take place.
• The student pass-rate of 100% on the four modules taken was encouraging.
• The students’ learning experience was complemented by placement in the summer period in their home community centres.
• The independent community feedback has been very positive and encouraging.

It was recognised that the first year intake of four students was a relatively small number and this was expected as it was a new venture in the Muslim community and it requires a four year commitment of full time studies by university graduates. The programme enrolment is anticipated to show an increase as current graduates are embedded in the community and their impact becomes visible and tangible.
