ALI 263: Islamic Art for beginners (for ladies ages 16+)
During this four week interactive course we will explore different areas of Islamic arts. Students will learn about Islamic calligraphy and patterns and incorporate these into their own Islamic artwork. All materials will be provided.
Dates: 4 Monday evenings, May 5-26, 2014;
Timings: 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. with a break for salāt. Instructor: Sr. Alina Juma

ALI 264 : Qur'an Appreciation (children ages 9-12)
Children will continue to read and discuss verses 15-44 of Sūratun Naml and verses 78-82 of Sūratul Anbiyā, on the story of Nabī Dawūd (a) and Nabī Sulaymān (a). They will work on a play showing four scenes from the stories of Nabī Sulaymān (a) in Sūratun Naml.
Dates: Fridays, April 4 - June 13 (with possible breaks in between)
Timings: 4.15 pm – 5.15 p.m.

ALI 244 : Raising Children the Islamic way (for mothers with children under the age of 7)
A monthly session for mothers of young children. The sessions will discuss what Islam says about nurturing children in the early years.
Dates: 10 sessions; last Wednesday of each month, September 25, 2013 - June 25 2014.
Timings: 8.30 pm – 9.30 p.m.

ALI 265: Enhancing the Daily Prayers
Most Muslims say their salāt but many find it challenging to achieve the spirituality and presence of heart which makes the salāt an act of soaring to the Lord. This course will look at fiqhī (jurisprudential) and ‘irfāni (spiritual) aspects of salāt with the aim of offering prayers to get us closer to the Creator. The course will also provide guidance on the basic rules of preparing and saying prayers correctly.

ALI 267: Islamic Nutritional Wisdom - II
Many of us know Hadith of the Masumeen (a) about food and the nutritional habits such as having a pinch of salt before and after a meal, not drinking with our meals, chewing our food well, keeping 1/3 of our stomachs empty and more. How many of us really put these pearls of wisdom into practice? During this workshop we will attempt to understand the nutritional logic behind these words of wisdom. We will also discuss practical tips on implementing them to achieve optimum health.

ALI 269: Keeping Healthy in the month of Holy Ramadhān
Whilst the main focus of fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadhan is to benefit from its spiritual, ethical and social aspects, it is also important to pay special attention towards the effect that fasting may have on the health of the individual especially as we approach the hot summer months where fasts are also longer in duration. By minimizing the physical and health challenges of the person fasting, one may be able to focus and concentrate more on the spiritual and religious benefits of this great holy month. This 90 minute course will focus on: a) The relationship between health and fasting b) The importance of healthy eating habits especially during long fasts c) The adjustments needed in people who may already be suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease etc.
