Career Counselling Scholarship ACS Distance Education – Africa

The Education Board of Africa Federation is pleased to introduce a Career Counselling scholarship programme offering a full scholarship to two students who wish to pursue a Certificate in Career Counselling with ACS Distance Education.

Established in 1979, the Australian Correspondence School (ACS) is a leading Australian Distance Education provider offering various courses via Correspondence, online or on CDs.  The institution has offices in Australia and the United Kingdom and is operated through affiliates in the USA.

ACS is recognized by the International Accreditation and Recognition Council (IARC).  Click here for further  information on ACS accreditation.

ACS is affiliated with many other colleges, located in Australia, the UK, Singapore, France and Ireland.  Many of these colleges hold government accreditation and offer articulation for ACS graduates into accredited qualifications.  Affiliates in the UK include Worcester College (incorp. Persore College) in the midlands and Wanborough College in Kent.

Eligibility
The scholarship is open to male and female applicants’ ages 25 years and above.

Jamaat Responsibility/Deadline
All applications must be handed over to their respective Jamaat Education Board Representatives.  Local Jamaats will be responsible for advertising these services, and evaluating, verifying and filtering all applications in order to nominate and forward two proposed names to the Education Board Secretariat by 31 May 2010.

Publicity
Local Jamaats are specifically requested to give more importance to this scholarship programme so that applications area received from all the local Jamaats.  Jamaat education representatives must put in extra effort to publicize and make announcements at different community centres and functions to draw the attention of students who would consider applying.

Conditions
Conditions of the scholarship are as follows:

a) The course should be completed within 3 years of enrolment
b) Fees for resits, withdrawals, extensions and deferment will be incurred by the applicant
c) 1 year (5 hours a month) voluntary community service to the individuals local Jamaat will be completed upon successful completion of the course.  The service will be aimed at offering guidance to students on their career paths and field of study.  If community service is not completed, the scholarship will be converted into a loan.

Scholarship Guidelines
Candidates who wish to apply are required to fill in the normal Higher Education loan form including the Combine guarantor form and attach the following:
  • 1 passport size photograph
  • Final O level and/or A level , or any other examination results
  • 2 academic reference letters
  • Certificates of achievement or letters of recommendation in extracurricular activities and community service
  • Acceptance letter and invoice from institute
  • One page essay explaining  why you should be considered for this scholarship , your aspirations for the future, and how you will use your skills to contribute back to the community upon completion of the course
Jamaat board members must certify all documents are true copies.  In the absence of any of the above documentation, the student may be disqualified.

The secretariat of the Education Board will make the final selection from nominated applications received from all Jamaats.
