The program covered underprivileged devotees in Shia communities living in major cities and towns throughout the country namely Rangoon, Mandalay, Wakema, Mawleimayaing, and Delta townships.
ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS CARRIED OUT:
- Funds received from The World Federation were supervised and distributed by a team of local prominent community members including clergy.
- Daily Iftaars were served in the Masjid and other institutions.
- Basic food rations were distributed proportionately to 25 needy families with extra cash reserved for discretionary spending.
- Cash donations were gifted to approximately 1,656 people which included 389 underprivileged families, seniors who are sick and in need of medication and local Ulama.
- Debts of 18 families were cleared
A STORY OF ONE PERSON/FAMILY THAT THIS PROGRAMME HAS HELPED:
There is a family comprised of two parents and five children living on the outskirts of a major city in Myanmar. They are a God-fearing family who are in an extremely impoverished state. When the Ramadhan Relief funds were being distributed, this family received food rations as well as some cash to provide respite for the Holy month. The family was thrilled to receive this aid and was able to utilise the cash to purchase much needed medicines, pots and pans, paying of bills and paying of their children's school fees.
The majority of the Shia Muslim community in Myanmar is poor and deprived. Most of them long for such a contribution when the month of Ramadhan approaches. This support makes life a little bit easier allowing Mo’mineen to fulfil their religious obligations with peace of mind.
Alhamdulillah, the intentions of the donors are being realised; may Allah (SWT) accept and bless their efforts. Ameen.
The Assistant Secretary General for Relief and Economic Development, Shan-E-Abbas Hassam said: 'Our work doesn't only extend to Africa, India or Pakistan. We have an interest in spreading Dawa work and helping the deserving in all parts of the world. The World Federation is proud of this work in Myanmar and is attempting to help the local Shia population (which suffers greatly) in many ways. We must of course thank all Mo’mineen who have donated and have helped to make this excellent work happen.'
