The World Federation assists in making student dreams a reality

Updated 17 April 2013

Aymen Dewji achieved her dream of completing her Masters program in the UK.  Through the assistance of a loan through The World Federation, she was able to focus on her Post-Graduate Degree and pay back her loan in due course.  Aymen shares her experience:

In the spring of 2006 I received some incredible news; I has been accepted into the University of my choice to pursue my Post-Graduate degree in Management.  I was elated at the fact that not only was I going to be embarking on the next phase of my educational journey but that I was going to get to do it in the United Kingdom! Being from North-America, I had always wanted to pursue my post-graduate degree aboard.

However the realities of my financial situation quickly settled in when I realized that despite my good fortune studying aboard would be extremely expensive. This was further compounded by the fact that I had only a few short months ago completely my Bachelors degree and had a looming, interest-bearing loan to start paying back.

The cumulative cost of my boarding, tuition and miscellaneous expenses made me reconsider whether or not I would be financially capable of accepting the offer to continue my higher education.  It was around this time that I started actively scouring the internet and post-graduate foundations to see if there were any scholarships or bursaries I could qualify for.   Unfortunately I very quickly realized that most of these scholarships offered a very limited monetary contribution which would be nowhere close to the amount of money I would require to fund my education.

It was then that a friend of the family suggested we contact The World Federation.  I personally had heard of the organization when attending mosque functions but had no idea that they provided financial help to students pursuing their education.

From the moment I met The World Federation team I was genuinely impressed by their accommodating demeanor and willingness to help.  They stressed the fact that they wanted me to spend the next year and half focusing primarily on my education and that once I graduated we would set up a repayment plan that would be in the best interests to both parties.  They assured me that while this was a rather large loan that the repayment plan would allow me to make payments at a pace that I would be comfortable with.

True to their word, upon graduating from my Masters program I began a repayment schedule that allowed me to determine a financial amount and frequency method I was most comfortable with. I was even able to transparently communicate with the foundation’s chairs when I was looking for a job and did not have an income coming in.  I am happy to share that at the beginning of 2013 I finished paying off my student loan, thanks to the grace of Allah.  It is extremely gratifying to know that the monies I paid back go into a self-sustaining pool of resources redistributed to other students attempting to pursue their educational aspirations. The importance of repayment cannot be stressed enough;   to ensure future generations of students can benefit from the opportunity that The World Federation has provided.   As beneficiaries we must not dismiss the importance of timely repayment.  As Prophet Mohammed PBUH has said, ‘The Faithful are those who perform their trust and fail not in their word, and keep their pledge’.  We have been privileged to receive the opportunity to pursue our educational goals and should not minimize this privilege by failing to repay the loan we have received
.”

The World Federation offers a variety of options to those attempting to apply for loans or make repayments and welcomes the opportunity to speak to those in need of assistance.
