Meet the Islamic Education mentors on the Madinah and Bab Summer Courses – Part 1

Updated 23 May 2012

Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing you to the mentors that have been appointed to accompany the group this year.

1. Sister Nuzhat Merali – Birmingham, UK
After completing her degree in International business and French at Aston University, Nuzhat now works in the recruitment industry as an account manager for the University of Warwick.

Nuzhat has a keen interest in community work.  She is currently the acting vice-chair of the CoEJ Youth Desk and has previously been involved in working for local organisations including the Abbasi youth committee and Muhammadi Madrasah, both of Birmingham Jamaat. These experiences have given her the opportunity to work with youths within the community which she feels will allow her to interact effectively with the students on the trip.

Nuzhat comments: ‘I am so grateful for being given this humbling opportunity. Having been on this trip as a student back in 2007, I have always maintained that it was one of the most inspiring and life-changing experiences of my life. I pray that inshAllah, I am able to contribute positively to the beautiful journey this year’s students will undoubtedly embark upon.’

2. Sabira Alidina
Sabira was born and grew up in London. She recently graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BA in Childhood and Youth Studies, and is currently living in Qum, studying Hawza studies at Jamia-tuz-Zahra.

Sabira enjoys reading, especially classics, and also loves to write.

Sabira says: “People who live in Qum are very blessed to be around Bibi Masuma all the time, however the status of the the zawwar of this special lady is a much higher one. It really is an honour to be given an opportunity to serve the zawwar this year.”
