This year’s majalis in the first twelve days of Muharram were delivered by Shaykh Muhammad Khalfan of Kenya in which he discussed some of the practical aspects of the ideological manifestation and implications in the different stages of the movements of Imam Husayn (as).

The programmes began each evening with Quran, followed by one of the Ziyarat (Ashura, Waritha, Aminullah, and Ale Yasin), Marthiyah, Majlis, and then recitation of Masaeb by Brother Mustafa Mukhtar. Nyaz was arranged from the 6th night onwards.
Shaykh Khalfan’s discussions began with some introductory statements regarding theoretical and practical ideology and how we can apply our fundamental beliefs to our daily lives. He continued to draw parallels with those who practically manifest their belief and those who practically manifest their disbelief, and the implications of this.

Shaykh then expanded upon each of the fundamental beliefs:
• Tawheed and the three fundamental categories of Allah’s unity, and the dangers of ‘worshipping’ the base desires. He went on to explain that those who had defeated Yazid within themselves, defeated Yazid externally in the real world. Thus if a person has taken care of his microcosmic world, then the macrocosmic world will not be hard for him to take care of, because he has already defeated himself, the Yazid within himself and now he is ready to defeat the outer Yazid. Similarly, those who have made their Yazid of Nafs al-Ammara to be strong and have slain the aql of Imam Husayn (as) within, their external would also be the same. Therefore when a person performs Jihad al-Nafs, he will reach the station of Practical Tawheed.
• Adalat and its roots within rational thought and its opposition to beliefs such as determinism. Shaykh explained that the meaning of Adalat is to put something in its proper place, hence when something is out of its place it is known as Zulm; this is why the literal translation of Zulm is ‘wrongdoing’ and not ‘oppression’, as oppression is one of the corollaries of wrongdoing.
• Nubuwwat and its two stages of (1) general prophethood and its principles, and (2) specific prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (saw). Shaykh expanded upon the miraculous nature of the Holy Quran and the sublime character of the Holy Prophet (saw).
• Imamat and its designation by Allah. Shaykh highlighted the immense detriment the ummah faced by rejecting and usurping the Imamat, namely: deviation in Aqa’ed, interpolation in Shari’at, facilitation to a group of people who believed that religion to be insignificant, and the foundation of perpetual torture of the Ahlul Bait (as).
• Ma’ad, the return to Allah and His mastery over us.

The World Federation would like to take this opportunity to thank all the reciters, volunteers, participants and all those who gave their valuable time and presented their condolence for the Martyrdom of Imam Husayn (as), his noble family, and his valiant companions. May Allah accept all of these efforts in Azadari, ameen.
