International Relief and Development: 5 Reasons to donate to The World Federation’s annual programs
Updated 26 December 2012
From high tech gadgets and expensive clothes to fine meals and memorable vacations, there are many ways we can spend our hard-earned dollars. And there is nothing wrong with spending out of the wealth that Allah (swt) blesses us with. Yet, what would happen if we rewarded someone other than ourselves instead?
Inspired by our religious values that govern our responsibility towards humankind, The World Federation is addressing poverty within the poorest and deprived communities across the globe, by providing access to education, economic development, and improvements in healthcare and water services for all. We exist to serve.
With 31st December only a few days away, please support The World Federation’s charitable work with your tax-deductible donation. Your continued care will help dry tears and bring joy to the faces of so many struggling men, women and children who count on our programs day after day.
Below are 5 year-round initiatives identified by The World Federation’s ‘International Relief and Development’ team that need your financial support. You can donate in part or contribute the full amount of the sponsorship – each dollar or pound you give, works so hard.

1. AL QA’IM SPONSOR OUR SENIORS PROGRAM
Since 2003, The World Federation provides welfare assistance to 110 senior citizens in Bihar and 50 seniors in Sri Lanka living in severe poverty. These are elders of our community who either have no children, or who have been abandoned by their children or whose children are financially struggling and cannot care for their aged parents. These seniors have no income to support themselves in their old age. The financial aid we provide them each month allows them to purchase basic items such as food, medicine and clothes.

Yearly: 120 GBP / 240 USD-240

2. ALI ASGHAR WATER APPEAL (AAWA)
Water is the very symbol of life. The Ali Asghar Water Appeal (AAWA) provides struggling families with easy access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities in developing countries. In Pakistan, where an estimated 30% of the population has no access to clean drinking water, The World Federation is constructing deep bore wells and restoring water hand pumps destroyed in the July 2010 floods that caused havoc across Pakistan. Village by village, families have easy access to clean water for drinking, cooking, bathing and even performing wudhu. A small drop makes big ripples. If you wish to sponsor a full well or water pump and would like a donor or memorial plaque made, please email relief@world-federation.org

3. DELIVERING THE FUTURE:
ISLAMIC SCHOLARS FOR ISLAMIC CENTRES
For the past 2 years, our activities in Pakistan’s flood affected areas have focussed on delivering the future –a balanced approach to building strong, sustainable and spiritual communities. Donations to this program fund the placement of desperately needed religious guides in the 105 newly built Islamic Centres across Pakistan. This initiative ensures that the centres are well utilised and that children and youth are educated in Islamic teachings. This project is underway and the results are outstanding. Already we are making a real and lifelong impact on thousands of men, women and children who are rediscovering the light and guidance of the Ahlul Bayt (as).

4. HADITH E KISA BLANKET DRIVE
The Hadith-e-Kisa Blanket Drive provides warm blankets to individuals living in and affected by the severe cold temperatures of their homelands. These families cannot afford fuel to heat their homes or warm blankets to stay warm in the winter months. Year after year, they suffer the icy clutch of winter which grips the children and the elderly the hardest. In March 2012, another appeal was launched to raise funds to purchase and distribute 2,000 warm blankets to families living in Mazar Sharif, Afghanistan. Here, severe winter weather is excruciating for families living in poverty who are affected by frostbite. Distribution of these blankets is scheduled for Winter 2012/13.

Cost of one blanket:
$20 USD / £13 GBP |

5. ZAINABIYA CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME (ZCSS)
Children exemplify one of the best opportunities for overcoming
poverty. Through the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme, The World Federation is committed to eradicating the root causes of poverty through education. ZCSS provides quality education to 5,309 children across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania and Haiti who otherwise cannot afford school fees. Our education objective is to empower communities to become self-sufficient. This is already creating a generation of skilled individuals who are working together to lift their communities out poverty.
