The Holy Prophet (s) said: “Sha’ban is my month and the month of Ramadhan is the month of Allah, The Exalted, and it is the springtime for the poor.”
Across India, thousands of families are looking forward to The World Federation’s annual Ramadhan Relief Fund to support their basic needs in the face of poverty.
These families live in various Indian states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh and are mostly labourers, rickshaw pullers, widows, disabled, and the destitute. Those living in cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata find it very difficult to afford the high cost of food and other essential items. In the villages, economic conditions are less than prosperous due to lack of employment opportunities and health care.
Among those anticipating Ramadhan Relief this year is:
• A number of families who’s breadwinners are deaf and mute and struggling to find decent employment;
• Kulsum Begum who lost her leg in a car accident and does not have a stable income;
• A blind father of two who is unable to work due to his disability.
• A grandmother who has lost one of her hands as a result of diabetes and paralytic attack;
The World Federation will be providing food rations to both Sadaat and non-Sadaat families in India. These food baskets include wheat, rice, lentils, cooking oil, vermicelli, tea and rose syrup (contents may vary by region).
