Imam Zainul Abideen (as) said: “A needy person’s Du’a is not rejected.”
Each year, The World Federation’s Ramadhan Relief Programme aims to help the poor and destitute by ensuring that they receive the basic essentials of life during the holy month of Ramadhan.
To show their love and appreciation for those Mo’mineen around the world who provide the much needed help either through donations or by other means of support, the poor and needy offer special prayers and Du’as for them. Earning these supplications is no doubt one of the best rewards of this blessed month.
The circumstances of the Mo’mineen are such that,
- In Bangladesh, the Shias in particular are poor as most live in Geneva camps. Conditions in these camps are dismal as they lack basic amenities such as running water. The affluent Shia population is but a handful in number, thus whatever they give in charity is relatively too little. It is the donations that are received from abroad that give hope to the less fortunate in Bangladesh.
- In Hyderabad, India, Muslims continue to struggle to afford one meal a day. Many students drop out of school due to financial hardships. It is common to find families where the sole breadwinner is no longer able to support his family because he is suffering from cancer, TB or other illnesses. Young widows are unable to work because they are illiterate and have no skills; these widows have young children who need funds to go to school and to eat nutritional food for proper growth.
- In Indonesia, the impact of the Tsunami and the flooding that occurred in Aceh is still felt. There are victims of this disaster who have not been able to recover to a reasonable condition. Many lost the little wealth that they had along with their livelihoods and are now in debt.
- In Myanmar, discrimination against Muslims is widespread and can be found in employment opportunities, rights, education, and applying for basic services including electricity and water which have become very difficult. Muslims are also deprived of basic medical and health care facilities. Most community members who are employed earn an average of USD $35 to $70 per month and are unable to meet their basic needs. They are forced to take out loans or sell their property and move to mosquito infested rural areas.
