27 people from around Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Nairobi were among those selected to attend the 4th LDP in Africa in Arusha, Tanzania from 13th to 16th October 2011. Anxiety usually grips participants before coming into this program, however it is always pleasing to see within no time they find themselves fully engaged and eager to be part of the team. This is the phenomenon of the program which brings together the people from different walks of life and backgrounds on a common platform – “Sharing and Caring as commented by one participant”
The AFED Nominated Counsellor, Alhaj Amir Somji who represented AFED at the Closing Session of the LDP, referred to this program as a stepping stone to the Leadership Leader. He encouraged the participants to play active roles in their respective Jamaats and should consider taking up leadership roles, and make a difference.
After the past successful 3 Leadership Development Programs which were held in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Mombasa, this 4th Program attracted many applications, however the number of participants was restricted to 25. This is the World Federation and Africa Federation jointly established Program for Africa. Arusha Jamaat hosted the Program, sponsored by AFED and supported by some well wishers. The Program was conducted by facilitators; head of LDP from World Federation, Dr Akber Mohammedali and Br. Yasin Rahim. Also assisting and supporting were Dr. Rizwan Alidina and public speaking and role play expert Ms. Maria Pattinson from the UK. They were assisted by the AFED LDP Coordinator, Br. Sameer Kermalli.
The LDP is a grueling 3 ½ day program where the participants are subjected to long hours of brainstorming, critical and open thinking, challenge processes etc. to withstand the consequences of daily life challenges in realizing that they are the leaders of today and tomorrow, just that they need to step into their powers with necessary leadership tools.
