On Monday 18 March 2013, well renowned Professor, poet and reciter Sibte Jafar was killed in Liaquatabad Karachi. The principal of Liaquatabad degree college Karachi was on his way from the college to his home on motorcycle, when he was shot and killed instantly.
Professor Sibte Jafar was known as “Ustad Sibta-e-Jaffar” among the Shia Community because of his accomplished services in Education, and elegizing and poetry on Imam Hussain (as). His scholarly and poetic work has been recognized by institutions such as Harvard University and Columbia University throughout the world.
Professor Sibte Jafar was known for his simplicity, honesty and philanthropy. In addition to his works, he had also set up education centres benefitting thousands. He also looked after educational wings of welfare organizations and oversaw numerous charity organizations and orphanages.
His death is a great loss to the community. The World Federation of KSIMC calls on the Pakistani government to take appropriate and stern action to put a stop to these senseless and tragic acts of brutality and violence.
To give you just a small insight into the type of man Professor Sibte Jafar was, a little non-Shia boy was found crying outside the home of Ustad Sibte Jaffar, and when people consoled him, he said, ' Ustad gave me Rs.150 everyday so that I could eat food'
Before his Shahadat, Professor Sibte Jafar wrote the following poem and asked that it be shared when he passes his away:
When I am no longer in this world, I request my friends to
Read my Poems, Recite Quran and Surah e Fatiha to remember me
I want them to participate in works that help others
I want them to organize a Majlis to celebrate my Shahadat
I do not want them to take revenge or wish bad for anyone
I just want them to serve the nation and the community
Tabinda, Abu Zar and Raninda (his children) are full of sorrow
I request my friends to treat them with love and put a hand on their heads
I request my friends to take care of my childrens' needs
I want them to strengthen my childrens' hearts and offer condolences to them
I want all the people working at the school
to respect my wife and consider her a teacher
I do not want anyone to conduct the affairs of the school with negligence
I do not want anyone to shy away from performing the smallest of tasks
They should contribute in whatever capacity they can
I do not want them to complain or whine in any way
God is my witness that I am now happy and in a better place
I do not want my relatives to feel sad for me
I am alive, I am near and I am watching over you
You can meet me through the purification of your soul
We pray for the family of Professor Sibte Jafar, so that they may have the strength to bear this loss. May the Almighty grant him a place among the 14 Masumeen. Ameen.
