Ayatullah Sistani (DA) congratulated Dr.Moledina on being elected as the President of the World Federation. He prayed for his tawfeeqat to serve the community. His Eminence also thanked the immediate past President Dr. Ahmed Hassam for his services rendered to the community over the past six years and prayed for his tawfeeqat and good health. He expressed his love for the Khoja community stating that every morning after fajr salat he prayed for all mo’amineen and for the strength and well being of the Khoja community in particular.

The delegation enquired about the health of His Eminence as well as the prevailing situation in Iraq. Ayatullah Sistani stated that by the Grace of God, his health was fine and that he was preoccupied serving humanity at large. As for the situation in Iraq, he was hopeful that things would improve after the forthcoming elections. He sought prayers from moamineen.

Agha then shed some light on his ongoing activities stating in broad terms his main objective in life was serving humanity. That would entail devoiding oneself of material gains or recognition. Serving the cause of God was sublime and fulfilling but it would entail heavy sacrifices in the process.

Ayatullah Sistani spent quite some time stressing the importance of achieving excellence in both, religious as well as worldy knowledge stating that a vibrant community is equipped with excellence in all sciences. He stressed that the young generation needed to excel in both these areas to be well prepared to face today’s challenges and better serve the Ummah. He said he had conveyed the same message to Iraqi students studying abroad and returning back to serve their country.

The delegation then briefed His Eminence on the ongoing tableegh activities at The World Federation. Ayatullah Sistani stressed the need to propagate the message of the Ahlul Bayt far and wide. He stated that Africa was ripe for tableegh and was well aware of the activities there amongst the indigenous. He expressed his full support.

Meeting with Syed Mohamed Ridha Sistani
The delegation then called upon the son of Agha Syed Mohammed Ridha who stated his utmost respect and pride for the Khoja community. He stated it was a community that has preserved its identity through cultural and religious observations whereas many other Shia communities had lost the essence upon migration to the West. He stressed the need to preserve this identity.

Syed Mohamed Ridha Sistani also stated that Najaf would take active part in issuance of future statements on the issue of hilal not only for Europe but also for some of the Eastern countries where there is bound to be confusion regarding beginning of Ramadan and Shawwal. This he felt would resolve a lot of the current confusion. The World Federation then sought an official appointment at the request of COEJ for a delegation to be sent to discuss matters related to the crescent masails. This appointment was granted for the 6th April, 2010.

Meeting with Ayatullah Ishaq Faiya
The delegation then called upon Ayatullah Ishaq Faiyyaz. A wide range of issues were discussed including the prevailing situation of Shias in Afghanistan. Ayatullah Faiyyaz praised the Khoja community for being well organized, systematic, focused and genuinely concerned about the plight of Shias in general. This he said gave the Khojas an edge over other communities. He also shed some light on the current development of the Hawza-e-Ilmiyyah in Najaf stating that after the fall of Saddam, the hawza was being re-established with strength and increased focus. He later distributed books authored by him.

Meeting with Ayatullah Bashir Najafi
Ayatullah Bashir congratulated the President on his election and then talked about the role of leadership in general. He stated some historical accounts about Qaide Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah stating that he belonged to the Khoja community and provided solid leadership at a difficult time for Muslims of the subcontinent. He stated the role of leaders as ‘servants’ of the community. Ayatullah Bashir then briefed the delegation about his tableeghi activities including publication of books in French, the organisation of a summer crash course in Najaf for students from Europe and extended his full support to the Khoja community. He stated that with his background, he well recognized the issues and challenges faced by the momineen with origins from the subcontinent. Ayatullah Bashir later spoke about the etiquettes of visiting the Holy Shrine of Imam Husein (AS) stating that the za’er needs to visit Imam (AS) for his sake and pay respects to his sacrifice and only thereafter to supplicate for forgiveness before seeking worldly needs.

Meeting with Ayatullah Mohamed Saeed Al Hakeem
The delegation called upon Ayatullah Hakim. Ayatullah Hakeem recalled his visit to UK where he had travelled for treatment during the time of Marhum Mulla Asgher. The days of Marhum Syed Muhsin Al Hakeem were recalled and in particular Syed Hakeem’s advise on working towards tableegh in Africa amongst the indigenous. It was Marhum Syed Muhsin Al Hakeem who inspired the community in Africa to begin propagating the madhab of the Ahlul Bayt within the native population . Ayatullah Saeed Hakim stressed the need to support moamineen in Africa and the Indian subcontinent stating that the poverty in these continents was a serious concern and the duty of all to offer support  through economic upliftment. The discussion then focused on the current hawza structure in Najaf and the role of the Hakeem family in providing support to students and the examination process that was in place.
