The World Federation President Dr. Asghar Moledina visits East Africa

Dr. Asghar Moledina visited Dar es Salaam, Mombasa and Nairobi from 20 – 28 June, 2011.  During his visit, Dr. Moledina spent time with the various Jamaats and met with community members and students.

Dar es Salaam
Dr. Moledina was in Dar es Salaam from 20 to 23 June and met with members of the Jamaat, and the community.  He also had the opportunity to meet with the Africa Federation Secretary General and Treasurer.  

During his visit, he attended a dinner with Jamaat President, Al-Haj Shirazbhai Walji and was accompanied by Trustees of the Jamaat, Al-Haj Asghar Bharwani, and past Chairman of AFED Al-Haj Mohamedbhai Dhirani. 

A highlight of the visit was meeting with the students studying at Manipal University.  The university currently has 32 students enrolled.  In a joint effort with Africa Federation, Dr. Moledina promised to look into the students’ needs of a resident Alim and  facilities for getting Halal meals.

Mombasa
During his visit to Mombasa from 24 to 27 June, Dr.Moledina was busy with several activities.

On 24 June, he addressed the seniors at Jaffery Club.  He spoke on how elders are the shelter and barakah for the community and how they can also assist and keep themselves occupied with community service.  He also addressed the Mombasa Jamaat in Gujarati at the Hyderi Imambargah.  In his discussion, he pointed out the various World Federation projects on microfinance, education and madressahs. 

The next day Dr. Moledina addressed the Jaffery School as an alumnus. 

On Sunday 26 June Dr. Moledina took part in a charity walk and joined a gala dinner at Fort Jesus where he addressed the gathering in Kiswahii and English. 

Visit to two Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya Centers
Dr Asghar Moledina the President of The World Federation of KSIMC on 27 June 2011 visited the Dembwa (Amani ) Center and Mwasafu (Imam Baqir ) Center accompanied by Amir Merali Africa Federation Councillor, Mujtaba Peera and Shamlan Daudi.

The purpose of the visit was to see the progress of the centers Islamic Development, Economic / Relief Activities and the Construction of the facilities in these areas.

The first stop for the visit was Dembwa Center, where Dr Moledina was welcomed by the Pre-Primary school students and got a tour of the current existing facilities.  He was then given a brief history of the Center by the locals in that area and was introduced to the Chairmen of the Committees and Parents of the Pre-Primary Students. The entourage witnessed the Pre-Primary class in progress and got to meet the Madressah students whom he was able to address, reminding them of the event of Kerbalah and the values that Imam Hussein (as) stood for, these values need to be implemented in our daily lives. 

Dembwa Pre-Primary School was recently awarded the Best ECD school in its area.
Areas to be looked into:
1.      Face uplift of the Dembwa Center needs to be started as the donor is awaiting the progress report.
2.      Religious education needs to be enhanced 

 
  
Mwasafu- Imam Baqir Center
Upon arrival at this center the entourage was shown the new facilities being developed in this area, Buildling of a new Masjid, 4 new classrooms, PIT latrines and Muallim house.

Dr Moledina then got the chance to see the Pre-Primary class in progress and was able to ask the students questions.

Thereafter the he was briefed on the activities that are being conducted in that area, he was pleased to note that the ladies Economic Upliftment Group had saved  Kshs 60,142/-, he encouraged the community to strive forward, educate their children and uplift themselves economically. Several viable projects were discussed with the villagers that could be started in that area.

Areas to be looked into:
1.      Completion of the center facility construction
2.      Commencing on upliftment projects that would benefit the locals eg making maize flour, agriculture (drip system/ borehole)
3.      Ensuring that the cente has electrical/solar connections
4.      Vocational course to benefit the locals in that area who have dropped out of school or not performed.

Dr Asghar Moledina plans to work closely with Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya in various areas to ensure that the goals of the Mission in Propagation of Islam, Empowerment, Education, Health and Rural Development are achieved.

Nairobi
On the last day of his visit Dr. Moledina visited Nairobi where he met with Chairman Al-Haj Asifbhai Karim and the managing committee and trustees of the Nairobi Jamaat.  He discussed the progress on their housing project and explained the WF projects in Africa on microfinance, education, housing and madressah.

After his visit, Dr. Moledina stated, “I am extremely pleased with the visit and felt that we had a lot of excellent discussions around the various projects that are underway in East Africa.  I am looking forward to working with the jamaats through Africa Federation on putting these visions into action.”
