Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme

The Zainabiya Child Sponsorship (ZCSS) has an undulating cycle.  We receive applications for Sponsorships in Stanmore, the members of our community make a contribution, a child receives an education and somewhere down the road everybody is uplifted. 

When applications for school fees assistance are reviewed, the names breathe familiarity.  They are not different from the boys and girls we raise in our homes or greet in Mosques or encounter on Madressah playgrounds.  And the photos that accompany the application portray the innocence and hopefulness that we witness in our own children.  However, the applications reveal the dire poverty of their parents.  It blows your mind to come to grips with how the family can make ends meet given the meagre income, let alone pay for basic school fees to educate their children.  The realities necessitate that the 8-year or 9-year old boy or girl work to supplement the family income.  His or her paltry wage does not add much to the family kitty but he or she loses a lot by missing school.  This is where ZCSS steps in.  It lifts the burden of school fees from the parents, and gives the child a rare opportunity.

The Zainabiya Sponsorship works.  In the brief 22 years of its existence, ZCSS has witnessed students who have taken this once in a life time opportunity and succeeded to become doctors, engineers, computer programmers and lecturers; others have ventured into trade and business.  Some of them have reciprocated by sponsoring other students.  At the very least this educational opportunity makes these children literate and better placed someday to catapult their children to higher education.

These opportunities become realities simply because of your sustained and noble contributions.  You can make a real difference.  Yes you can. By pouring your contribution, which often amounts to less than the cost of a daily chocolate bar, into this sea of need you lift the tide up and the boats sailing in this sea of despair rise with it.  The alternative for these children is harsh, and have led to an effective economic slavery.  Education permanently breaks this chain, though the journey is long and arduous, but the benefits are liberating and the blessings eternal.

Students are being sponsored for a period of 1 to 14 years’ studies from Kindergarten to Post Graduate studies.  You may sponsor for any period of 1 year or more preferably for a minimum period of 3 years.

How the donation will be used
The monthly donation quoted above is more than what will be sent to the sponsored child initially.  The rest will be accumulated in the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme Fund.  This fund will cater for administration and emergencies that may arise in the Scheme - like supporting a child when a sponsor parent cannot support any more and before finding a new sponsor parent or when a child suddenly needs major medical care or when the child’s parent or bread winner falls ill or dies.  It also enable us to increase contributions to the child to meet increases in expenses without having to come to you each time.

When a sponsor or a child leaves the Scheme
If due to unforeseen circumstances, a sponsor leaves the Scheme, we will find another Sponsor Parent for the child.  In the interim period, the child will be supported by the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme Fund.  Similarly if a child leaves the Scheme, we will find you another child to sponsor.  In the interim period your contribution will be accumulated in the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme Fund.
