Al Asar Higher Secondary Public School in Kohat, Pakistan has doubled the number of
young women studying at the school since 2008. In rural Pakistan there is a social stigma attached to women in education, in many rural areas, female literacy is 7.5%. Many young women feel obliged to drop out of school due to various social and financial reasons.
However The World Federation has been working closely with the local community to promote education for everyone. In the last two years the number of young women attending school has risen across the secondary school.
The dedication and passion some of the young girls showed towards pursuing an
education led to the expansion of the school. The school is now providing a college education to young women who have completed their secondary schooling.
Masum Somji, The Assistant Secretary General for ZCSS said, “Usterzai Payan is a Shia village in Kohat. The school we fund helps to educate people in our community and I am delighted to see that young women are being given the same priority as men in the pursuit of education.”
He added, “It is vital to educate the young women because they will become mothers in the future. It is through educating young women that we can ensure the next generation grows up in a literate environment.”
Al Asar School is a multi-storey fully functioning school with computer labs, science
laboratories and a library. It also caters for orphans by housing them and covering the cost of their accommodation and education. The students at the school range from young children at primary school to students who have completed their college education.
Students at the Al Asar School continue to appreciate the support given to them by the donors of The World Federation. We would like to continue in nurturing the next generation towards educational excellence and we would like you to support the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme.
